I think I've painted him pining and yearning, but I really wanted to paint him somewhat at peace with the final decisions, even a tad bit satisfied? and with self-acceptance, because ultimately he is a man who does kneel. (in my head canon anyways) I've also painted him kneeling here. Possible missed detail after the jump~

His eyes are actually open. This piece is inspired by JC Leyendecker's "New Rochelle" piece, I have a few more rookanis leyendecker studies comin~ Also if you want a brilliant fic where Lucanis does end up kneeling and dramatically so, @rookanis-de-riva has finished there amazing indulgent fic for me. The first chapter is sfw, and then it just goes wildly nsfw so mind the tags.
