Stephen King and HP Lovecraft both have this amazing ability to absorb you into a story and then abruptly remind you they’re the one writing it and they have opinions that suck.
Me: Man, this is so good.
HP Lovecraft: Glad you’re enjoying it. Just wanted to remind you that I am massively racist and antisemitic.
Me: Man, this is so good.
Stephen King: Glad you’re enjoying it. Just wanted to remind you I am really weird and freaky about women and sex in general. I am also racist.
"If stuff was just handed to me I'd have no motivation to do anything! That's human nature!" No, babe, that's depression. Psychologically healthy people are still motivated to do things even when their survival isn't being actively threatened.

okay so like, we all know that housekeeping in a hotel is a Shit Job, right?
I worked with a woman who was independently wealthy. But she liked working housekeeping. So she did. And if the manager got bitchy with her, she’d just shrug and be like “Okay, I can quit.”
Like the manager treated her like a human being because she knew she had to because otherwise she’d lose one of her best workers.
Yes, everyone should be just handed the money to live.
I worked with a lady who’s husband made more than enough to support them both. She just did the retail to have something to do with herself part-time.
There’s a lot of people who’d happily do the same sort of thing. Honestly? A lot of the jobs we consider “shitty” jobs? Are shitty because the employees are treated like garbage.
If employees weren’t being screwed over by people higher up the chain constantly or being forced to kiss the asses of customers currently shitting all over them, those jobs would by and large be a whole lot more bearable, and appealing to more people!!

We need to bring back the athletics body type post
This one
Tumblr has 10+ image limit had to add these on too
I will probably never NOT share these photos.
These are *peak athletes*. All of them.
Literally. These are Olympic athletes.
Seeing the variety of body types that are honed for a specific purpose just makes me so happy and does so much for my mental health. ❤️
Due to my recent post about the Olympics, this popped back on my dash and I need to share it.
Literally peak performance. Human bodies at peak performance. Love it.
I want to add that both women's gymnastics and women's track have gotten far more muscular since these photos were taken. And if you want to say that decreases performance, I DEFY you to watch Simone Biles or Sha'carri Richardson perform.
They literally only compete with themselves. They are on that level.
Or watch Ilona Maher absolutely dominate at rugby. Again, peak performance.
And I. Love. It.
“But there are so many people who want to adopt/who are struggling with infertility!” Is such a crazy rebuttal to abortion and how it should be a basic human right. What the fuck does that have to do with a pregnant 13 year old? What does that have to do with a mother of 3 who has suffered from life threatening hyperemesis with every pregnancy and doesn’t want to do it again?
Sometimes when people on the Internet are like "ADULTS CAN NEVER INTERACT WITH MINORS IT'S CREEPY" I remember how, at 12, back in 1997, I was on the Witchvox forums with people ranging from me to people in at least their 50s, and no one there was ever a creep to me, no one ever made me feel uncomfortable or asked for my personal info, and when I finally broke down after a particularly brutal day of bullying at school and posted about it they were the first adults I'd ever met in my entire life who told me the bullies were the problem and it was okay to be angry about it.
Kids need to interact with adults who will listen to them.
I was practically raised by sixty year old scientists I'd never met on random science forums. I'd show up and talk about evolution with them for hours. When I got accepted into university, they helped me go through how to find a place to live and the basics of living alone (my family didn't want me to go to uni so didn't help with any of this, figuring that if I couldn't find accommodation I'd have to stay home). You're supposed to have friends outside your age group; I'd argue that it's psychologically unhealthy not to. And no, your parents and grandparents don't count.
It takes a village to raise a child. Not a village of other 6 year olds.
On the other side of this, as I am now officially Old, whenever I find myself in the company of young people I am always grateful for their perspective. I am constantly exposed to new things that passed me by while I was busy getting old. Not just media or news, but new ideas and points of view I could never find without them. I love my young friends. I want to help them because often I've found myself in situations they've been in that I can help with. But also they can help me see the world through their eyes. They keep me grounded. They make me think about the future, and what I can do as an old person to leave them a world that's just a little bit better for them than it might have been for me. Or better than it is now.
Young people need old people, and old people need young people. We all need to share our thoughts and ideas and experiences because it makes us all better.

What’s going to make you happy right now? Is it some cake? Is it a nap? Is it calling your mom? Is it going on a drive and blasting music? Is it taking a bath? Is it reading a book?
Check in with yourself because you deserve that happiness, whatever it is.
I use this with my hospice patients a lot. Because “is there anything I can do to help?” rarely gets a response. But, “I’ll be here till 6:30 and would like to do one thing to make your room more comfortable before I head out” frequently does get an answer. Often something they deem “too small to bug anyone with” like closing the blinds so there’s no reflection on the tv, or repositioning their socks because the heels have wandered into the front and are uncomfortable, or they want ice cream before dinner today, or getting an extra blanket.
I also use this on myself. What’s one thing I could do to make my environment more comfortable right now? Does it cure my mental illness? Hell no! Does it make me feel more in control of my feelings and the world around me? You betcha!
I’m going to try to apply this to my current situation, since right now things feel very out of control. Thanks!
shoutout to butches with round faces and dorky walking shoes and soft arms and big stomachs. Please
i feel like one of the weirdest realizations you (or at least i) eventually have a few years into transitioning and being mostly around other trans people, is that moment where u notice that like ur brains mapping of like specific voices to specific genders is just kinda gone. like it rly is just all social constructs programmed into u by society, and living outside societies idea of gender just kinda melts that shit away, and it's not just voices, like other traditionally gendered attributes also suddenly don't matter anymore*
*except for myself of course, i am obviously totally failing at being a girl but everyone is doing it perfectly, dysphoria is so awesome lmao
the real deep message here btw isn't just about gender, but about the general ability of the human brain to shed off bad socialization and habits if we change the environment we're in for the better and i feel like that's massive
butches. i love u butches.
