I’ve decided to open up slots for commissions, alongside writing my usual for fun stuff and soldered wires (with @thecryptidart1st ). As a general aside, i’ve listed my basic information below, but you can always message me to ask for anything else!

General sfw rate- $1 usd per hundred words.

Something extremely funny and sad that happens in every episode of The Closer. A character will say something deeply emotionally vulnerable to Brenda Leigh Johnson. Sometimes it's a suspect, sometimes someone related to the victim, sometimes someone close to Brenda.

And she does not register it in that way at all. She just sort of stares into the distance as she slides in the crucial missing piece of the puzzle. And then she just fucking dips without responding. You can't say anything meaningful to her she will not acknowledge it. She WILL use it to solve the murder.

And I know this is a thing in detective shows (I suppose also medical shows) where the detective gets inspiration from something someone says offhand. But I think it's so funny she doesn't bother to explicate this to anybody. Her boyfriend will be talking about the cat and she will stare into space in silence and then book it to the interrogation room. The victim's mom will be tearfully telling her she wouldn't understand the lengths family will go to to protect each other and Brenda will gaze over her shoulder completely not giving a shit. She's in her mind palace fuck off. Sorry you can't have your moment of human connection. The Closer is Closing her case.

Everyone on the subreddit fucking hates her but she's the Gregory House of procedural cop shows

Do you guys remember how kidnap fantasies were popular on wattpad because young girls and queer teens were both made to feel shame at the thought of their own sexualities, so the fantasy of being kidnapped totally against their will was a way for them to engage with a romantic or sexual fantasy without feeling morally in the wrong for doing so? less fanfiction is inherently bad and therefore shameful to joke about dante or shakespeare or any number of classic works being fanfiction due to their referential and intertextual nature and more damn isnt it crazy derivative and intertextual works have been like one of the major pillars of storytelling for millennia and now suddenly this is like illegal to do with modern works without a studio executive or lawyers or formal contracts and money exchanging hands and one of the few legally ignored ways to still do that is exclusively available to people writing mostly anonymously in specific communities for amateurs with highly specific community interests and norms and storytelling desires who can receive no money or great fame from this endeavor lest the lawyers come after you because this is also still not really legal anyways its genuinely fucked up you suddenly cant just write books about a bunch of characters created by other people less than 100 years ago and reinterpret and reengage with them in exciting new ways

On a mission to demystify bottom surgery for girls like

no the risk of complications is not as high as you think

no you dont need to only go to one of two expensive surgeons, you can get good results in tons of places that your insurance will cover

no you wont lose ur trans status or be exiled from the community

something that needs to be adressed around bottom surgery is that it is SO difficult to find examples of post-recovery patients, which is understandable because hey, its ya genitals, not everyone wants to show them off...

Except that there are myriad examples of how it looks during and immediately after surgery. That isn't the case for any other gender affirming surgery, that the post-surgery images would be so widespread and yet the post-recovery images would be all but absent. You don't even get that for top surgery, it's always bottom surgery. This applies broadly too, not just vaginoplasty but phalloplasty and orchiectomy too. Always bleeding incisions and bruising stitches and never actual results. shits whack

Just verified this, I tried to find "Vaginoplasty post-recovery examples", and all that came up were images of the complications, and mid-surgery images. I am fully convinced this is intentional, to prevent trans people from wanting to get bottom surgery.

Idk if its intentional but it is entirely true that I quite literally had to start hooking up with post op trans women to get an idea of what a trans woman's vagin looks like and how it works!!!

I will never forget when I learned about John Robert Brown and had the moment of clarity where I realized that a lot of scaremongering over what people claim to be routine complications for bottom surgery are actually the results of this man's botched surgeries specifically.

Transphobes are walking around talking about the botched surgeries of a man who lost his medical license and was convicted of second degree murder for his medical negligence as though these are typical results, and it's just absolutely stomach churning for me.

Perhaps not all of them realize this is what's happening (these people tend to spread misinformation like the plague), but the people that started this game of telephone had to know. I have an extremely difficult time believing they didn't know what they were doing and that this wasn't intentional. They'll do anything to stop people from exercising their bodily autonomy.

For a reference of not botched images... We've used transbucket website and r/Transgender_Surgeries on reddit to see volunteered images of different transfeminizing bottom surgery post-op pics in early and later recovery to have a realistic sense of expectations and options. You need a transbucket account and reddit account respectively to see the images (for reddit, to see "nsfw images"). Though fair warning that early and post-recovery images are often posted together. The reddit board also has other useful informations.

The list of websites and surgeons are often U.S. centric, while the wikis tend to have other country options. So, here's some surgery and surgeon options:

Queerdoc has a list of more information on types of gender affirming surgeries, grants to cover costs, pre-surgery preparations n requirements, which have BMI requirements, and other info in different pages on the site

Usually, which insurance are accepted depends on the surgeon, but as long as the surgeon is well-rated and not being warned about, if they accept your insurance and referral it isn't necessary to pick only the most praised surgeons. Each surgeon (that hasn't been blacklisted or warned about) has their own techniques, pros and cons, and merits.

Hopefully with this information, it makes bottom surgery seem less scary for the girls with bottom dysphoria.

Potentially hot take but one of the reasons we need art and music in schools is that, taught correctly, they are ideal avenues for teaching kids how to do something, kinda suck at it, keep going anyways and improve over time.

And THAT is one of the most valuable skill sets a human being can have. THAT is the skill set that unlocks soooooo many others.

A LOT of people I see with anxiety and depression do not have this skill set. To suck at something is a threat. Proof that they are doomed to suck at it forever. And then, often, that either THEY suck forever or the task must be stupid/useless/pointless (whence we get AI art fans who have decided actually making art is pointless and degrading the labor and skills of others is fine because these are useless skills).

Or you get the freeze- the inability to try things in case you fail. The sudden lancing shame and humiliation or hopelessness. The sense that anything you haven't learned by now you can't learn. Which is so heartbreaking and so untrue.

I just hate it.

It's very #problematic of me I'm sure but if they must do either I really desperately prefer authors coming up with fancy always-italicized elven words for being gay or trans than having preindustrial warrior aristocrats and barely-socialized monsters have a vocabulary that casually includes 'demisexual' and 'enby'.

This is only slightly a principled stance (queernorm fantasy worlds are very obviously not trying to have any sort of realistic political economy of gender, which I only slightly judge them for), mostly just painful aesthetic mismatch.

The thing that irks me about using modern queer terminology in fantasy is that you're depriving yourself of a way to Say Things about people in your world.

In my YA fantasy book with the trans prince stealing back his kingdom, trans people are called cymerans. Cymerans are named after the goddess Cymera, who presides over death and change.

A person who decides to trans their gender is, in this society's conception, dying and being reborn. They throw a wake for the person they used to be, a big party with food and drink and stories and laughter. (Part of the wake is the 'deceased' giving their own eulogy, which is often an incredible self-roast.) It's equal parts funeral for your past self and coming-out ball for your new self.

When someone is born, in this world, they're consecrated to a god. Most of the time, you're consecrated to the Lady of Currents (goddess of luck and the sea), Atheran (the god of bloodlines, and patron of the royal family), or the Beetlemaker (god of craftspeople). It really depends on who your parents are and what they want for your future. If your parents want you to be prosperous, they'll consecrate you to the Lady. If your parents want you to be clever and inquisitive, they'll consecrate you to the Beetlemaker. And if you're the eldest son... you'll get stuck getting consecrated to Atheran.

Most of the time, people don't get consecrated to Cymera. If your baby is really sickly and you're scared they'll die, maybe? However.... there's no formal rebaptism process, but most people see cymerans as having been re-dedicated to Cymera after their rebirth.

In this world, cymerans are Cymera's children. They died and came out the other side of death, like a moth from the chrysalis.

.... You cannot get that across the same way if you just say 'transgender'.

You just can't. It's a completely different mindset. It's a completely different conception of gender, trans genders, and religion-re:-queerness. Calling my protagonist "trans" isn't inaccurate, but it leaves out a huge dimension of how he interacts with his gender and his world.

Using modern queer terminology in a secondary-world fantasy story is the same kind of thing as having your characters eat potatoes. Sometimes, it's the right choice. A lot of the time, they should be eating cabbage, or turnips, or aklano root.

It was stupid good. So good in fact that the bbc filmed a version and put it on dvd when it debuted. I bought that dvd after I saw the show and put it up on the Internet Archive. The audio is not great but the dancing is spectacular. Ever see a pas de deux around an anatomical dissection? You will.

Lupine Bond (oil pastel painting)

Wolf pack behaviour among Arctic lupines. Ray is very soon going to be licked directly on the mouth. Who gets there first, Dief or Fraser?

Another day, another finished WIP - or rather, a new piece reworked from a nearly abandoned digital WIP. This idea had sat in the "rough photomanip" phase of my digital painting process for two or three years and was going to stay there because I was unable to find a usable reference photo for Ray (the one I had was blurry and entirely differently lit than everything else in the picture). There wasn't much else in the manip than the character references plopped on a stock photo of two guys sitting in a random field, and then I had a bunch of separate photos of Arctic lupines.

After drawing Dief admiring cherry blossoms with oil pastels earlier this year, I knew I wanted to paint the field of Arctic lupines with oil pastels, too, and of course I also wanted to see how these rough manips would work as references for oil pastel paitings, and how easily I could combine stuff from other reference pics on the spot. I'm happy to say it worked pretty well - this only took me three hours and didn't feel very hard - not that I was being very careful with their arms etc. I did suspect working like this was going to mean compromises in character likeness, and I wasn't wrong. :D Their faces are an inch and a half high on the A4 page, so not much room to fiddle with the blunt pastel sticks there ("CKR without a map" was a phrase that I repeated in my mind while I was working on Ray's face, wiping everything away and trying again - then I decided to keep everything really vague). But the lupines were just as pleasant to draw as I thought they would be! And the lupine creature in the middle, of course. 

You won't get through these notes without some speculation why lupines are called lupines. What do they have to do with wolves? There seems to be two theories. Some sources say Romans thought the plant was toxic to wolves, and that's it. The other theory is that lupines were considered predator-like because they can grow in very poor soil where other plants can't: people assumed they had robbed the soil of whatever other plants would need for growing. Sadly, where I live (Finland) lupines are just like that: they spread from gardens into wild nature decades ago and have now invaded huge areas, replacing many native plants. I think lupines are really beautiful in bloom - they are an essential part of early summer landscapes for me; the best time is right now! - but hardly anything else grows where they have taken root, and they're also very harmful to bumblebees. I was relieved that I could put my aesthetic love of lupines into this picture with a good conscience, because Arctic lupine is native to Canada - it is actually considered to enrich the soil and recommended as a garden plant, too.
