going to dare to shoot my rent-lowering gunshots in this blog:
i don't think the game is actually going to go through with it. deltarune is likely operating on much simpler 'the expectations put on women suck' terms. but like. after the weird route events in chapter 5, i would argue transgender man noelle is at the very least Supported by the Text. turning one of the people of the fandom-beloved wlw pairing into a man would cause riots in the streets. but it would make sense.
can you elaborate on what you’re talking about? i personally headcanon noelle as a trans woman (pretty much based on vibes i’ll be honest) but what’s in the weird route seems to me to be just general dissociation/depression, which isn’t necessarily related to any dysphoria. if anything, prom king susie has more gender fuckery going on this chapter
(side note idk what fandom you’re engaging with but I’ve seen a LOT of suselle hate idk if noelle transitioning to a man would make that worse or better lmao) (probably worse)
sure, i'll bite(!)
(unrelated to all that but suselle hate has to be crazy considering it's like, basically canon. i would expect that it abruptly turning into a heterosexual ship would make it much worse in fandom for reasons i hesitate to even get into. i also moderate my fandom experience. so, there you go.)
i don't think there's anything wrong with considering noelle a trans woman. there's thread there. my main argument is that noelle in the latest chapter presents some very strong arguments about hating presenting a form of responsible Womanhood.
noelle clearly is innerly dissatisfied with how she is seen by her peers and faces a demand to play those traits up for their satisfaction, hiding interests that might be seen as out of line. she speaks of herself in the third person disassociatively. she has a deep, buried design for a violent transformation outside of her own self, which she is spelling very directly to the nonbinary character in the room.
again, as i argue in another reblog in this chain, this is most likely Weird Girl Stuff. notably, the number one people most affected by misogynistic standards are women. she's a weird girl and has weird girl interests, and her complicated situation with her family exacerbates this (including, you know, a family death), leading to the point you can convince her to go drown in a lake with you. the whole Wings imagery has a lot of weight in deltarune with angels, which is a completely different thing!
but these are also all dead ringers for a compelling trans man narrative in that it actually acknowledges the pressure to double down into More Womanly Things before you crack, a complicated relationship with your own self for reasons you even can't fully understand, and self destructive behaviors that could be solved by a testosterone injection maybe.
as for prom king susie, susie is susie and she can wear and do whatever the hell she wants i think, though i wouldn't complain if it happened. as of right now it seems unlikely though. she looks a little busy.
sure, I can see that headcanon, I guess I think I would be more compelled if there was anything about her that implied a draw to masculinity, like disliking her clothes or being jealous of men in her life. still, the deep desire for transformation in her character can be interpreted that way I suppose 👍
(and I agree that susie doesn’t seem super transmasc to me, it just kind of surprises me how little anyone is talking about her in the wave of Fandom Discourse about gender)
(also lowkey I think the suselle hate is mostly just misogyny so maybe adding a man would make it better lmao) (probably still not)
