okay but what if, WHAT IF

whenever Jack talks about his husband everyone just assumes he means his dead spouse, for all they know his spouse is dead, they have no reason to think he remarried

he talks about his husband, how he’s also a doctor, how they were friends for a very long time before they started dating, just mundane stuff here and there

and either way, Jack’s private, doesn’t talk much about his private life anyway so nothing really points at someone else

until one day Jack’s like “I’m out of here gotta get home to the husband” and the new interns share a confused/pitying look

at some point they tell Robby because they aren’t sure how to interact with Abbot when he talks to them about his spouse and they’re a little uncomfortable and Robby has to take a deep breath and explain that when Abbot talks about his spouse he’s not talking about his dead wife, he’s talking about me, we’ve been married for ten years

As much as I love sweet Robby/Abbot where they talk about their feelings and reassure each other, lbr, those repressed bitches would never do that.

Like, them actually saying how much they like each other? Absolutely not, even when they’re already dating. It’s more actions than anything else.

Abbot walks into Robby’s apartment one day and goes into the bathroom to find that it’s been renovated to be more accessible for him, and Robby never even said a word about it.

Abbot just shows up to Robby’s apartment to go to synagogue with him on holidays without ever planning it beforehand. They never say anything to each other, it’s just unspoken and expected at this point. Honestly, Robby doesn’t even know how Abbot figured out when the holidays would be since they change every year based off the Hebrew calendar and Google sure as hell wasn’t a thing when they first started dating.

I’m actually not entirely convinced that either one of them asked the other to go out on a date or to be boyfriends. They probably just kissed one day and both of them internally freaked out about it, but didn’t want a good thing to end, so they just kept it going without a word. At some point, one of them (probably Abbot), just walked over and handed the other a ring and still didn’t say anything. Nothing even changed except them referring to each other as “my husband” instead of “boyfriend”.

One morning after the shift with newbie Parker, Jack talked to Robby in the staff lounge with legs placed on Robby's. He complained why he always got weird kids as night shift residents, like Shen who literally dgaf to everything and Parker who possessed a basically same attitude but a bit more chaotic. Robby rubbed his legs and said "why doesn't it surprise me at all" and SMILED.

When Jack was temporarily taking off from his military duty, one day he tried to break a street fight and ended up in ER with couple of teenagers and hangover alcoholics and drug addicts. It was an absolutely chaos. He and the police helped each of the gang to register at the triage except for himself and tell them to fking behave and quiet down. The triage nurse asked him to register too but he knew it's super busy and he's covered in blood only because it's others' blood, and he might be waiting for 10 hours. He at first tried to call Robby or Dana but didn't want them to see him like this.

Some of the gang kids hurt badly so they got admitted in ER soon, and the nurse yelling their names at the door recognised Jack when he'd stopped by then told Dana. Dana shouted to nowhere deliberately "it's JACK!!!!" after she confirmed just looking through the door and Robby stopped and snapped"which Jack?!!"

When he knew what's happened, Jack's name just popped up on the board. He literally stormed into the Triage, when Jack was just done being forced to register his name because the nurse thought he should do so. Robby physically dragged Jack into the ER, ignoring everyone else's complaints and threats.

Jack saw it coming and chose wisely not to fight because he had absolutely no right to argue in front of the very attending of PTMC ER who also happened to be the department head. Robby looked tightened, pressed him down in the chair and gave his orders to Dana, who watched them with a cheeky grin.

So after all of the unnecessary examinations in fact there was a cut just above his temple but he was perfectly fine everywhere else. However Robby was a bit angry because of course he was and told Jack to go back to home and rest. Since it's near the end of this shift, Jack just waited for him outside after Robby treated those patients and they went back together.

Once they were inside the apartment, Robby checked Jack's cut again but sat next to him inappropriately close this time. Jack just signed and changed his blood stained shirts, let Robby carefully untangled those little knots in his hair and gently washed the blood away.

Just came up with the headcanon that robby and abbot have got a long backstory after watching the finale and I convinced myself that it would be interesting.

Although stuck in the process of writing the fanfic I'm still obsessed with two white men trying to get each other in their 30-50s. I love, headcanonically, the idea of Jack naturally responds something like "your buddy is good-looking/handsome/sharp/etc" with "he is" without even thinking and Robby just beams and they're even not together yet. This will be in the next chapter though, for the record.
