gay men brought back 70s mustaches, lesbians brought back 80s mullets, and now straight dudes are just walking around with both thinking they stumbled onto this styling choice by accident. say the line meryl (cerulean sweater monologue but specifically about how gay culture creates taste)
We need to bring up that Ursula K LeGuin quote about commodified fantasy more often. We need to be meaner.
Sweet family of Pallas cats (Otocolobus manul) in Qinghai province, China.
Wow! So awesome
That's such a sick baby picture to have. The rest of us are all like "oh this is me tripping in the backyard when I was 2" and that baby's gonna have "yeah that's me in my mom's arms as she wins a mortal Kombat tournament". Iconic.
Girl help they're selectively breeding the world's most powerful Mortal Kombat player.
I do really think that the use of ChatGPT and genAI by students highlights the fundamental flaw of our education system focusing almost entirely on grades and test scores rather than generating curiosity and inquiry, which produces individuals who fundamentally do not understand that the purpose of an assignment is meant to be to learn *how* to do something, not simply to produce a product you can turn in to get an A+
I actually think Portland absolutely has the right idea with showing up to protest in ways that make violence against them look not only unjustified but absolutely ridiculous. Ah yes, the people line dancing in inflatable animal costumes. Terrifying. Clearly pepper spraying the dancing frog guy was totally justified.
I think we need Gothic Lolita protestors. People in Star Trek uniforms. Slap on a pair of short shorts and a Richard Simmons wig and lead some sweating to the oldies.
It may be intentional, it may just be people have always been people- or a combination of both- but tactical frivolity is a thing that has been around since BCE.
It is 100% protest, but it's also showing the ridiculousness of the situation, and the People in Charge usually would rather face a warlord unarmed than be made fun of. And it ruins the "violent, unstable" population myth in an undeniable way.
It's also saying "you may be trying to control us, and our lives have turned to shit because of the things you are doing, but you will never take away our hope and the simple joy of being alive. Even in our darkest hour, we can dance in silly costumes and find our people and become stronger because of it."
Tactical frivolity! Thank you for the term!
i literally dont care what your excuse for using AI is. if you didnt put your own effort into making it im not putting my own effort into interacting with it.
"buhbub uhbubuh its just a tool!!" yeah youd know about being a tool wouldnt you
It's scary to be transgender in the world right now but if you're transgender I love you and we have to stick together and keep fighting and keep living and keep loving
If you'd like to support my Tumblr Blogging:
Hello.
I'm a Disabled, Neurodivergent, Trans Woman. I run 3 successful information based blogs on Tumblr: @allthecanadianpolitics, @mindblowingscience and @allthegeopolitics
I have significant student debt after 7 years of Post Secondary ($31,000 currently) and my only source of employment is self employment.
Any donations would be appreciated, but I don't expect it. I work hard to keep all 3 of my blogs updated regularly, and will continue to do so into the future.
You can donate several different ways at the link below:
I run @AllTheCanadianPolitics and @MindBlowingScience. Donate if you'd like. 💕
Donations will also help support the two blogging assistants who help run this blog with me.
the david zwirner gallery and the felix gonzalez torres foundation in the smithsonian removed the descriptive plaque for portrait of ross in la by felix gonzalez-torres. the old plaque explained portrait for ross' origins as the artist's partner's aids related death, and replaced it with a plaque with absolutely no information about the piece itself, who ross was, or who gonzalez-torres was either. portrait of ross was also reeranged to lay on the floor long ways instead of in a pile as it typically is situated, and the plaque outside the exhibition FOR GONZALEZ-TORRES omits his sexuality, as well as his aids related death. i'm in utter disbelief
By omitting the tragic story behind Felix González-Torres "Untitled" (Portrait of Ross in L.A.), the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery i
oh they just like... Changed it. That's not the same art piece anymore.
this is inexcusable. this is deliberate AIDS erasure.
As we see a barrage of evil executive orders come in, they are not immediately enforceable and will takes months or years to implement.
That’s still not great, but don’t let these pile up to the point of hopelessness. Take a breath, and look community leaders who will fight it every step of the way.
Reminder that when Trump was in office before a LOT of his orders got overturned or held up in lower courts for long enough that they became irrelevant. It also does not mean they WILL be enforced. Stand with your community where you can. The fight is not over. Do not obey in advance.
Last sentence above is the most important. Tyranny requires people to shut up and fall in line. Do not obey in advance.
Skip Google for Research
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse. It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable. As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
⁂
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free
this and also; your local libraries
This is a great resource for doing research while you prep for November!
ok but like. there are two different types of privilege. there's type a "everybody should have this, but some people don't" and type b "nobody should have this, but some people do"
there's having parents who can pay for your application to any college, and then there's having parents who can bribe your way into any college. there's owning your own home, and then there's owning 50 houses and getting rich off hoarding a vital resource. there's not fearing for your life whenever cops are around, and then there's being the cop and being allowed to murder anyone at any time.
idk i just feel like that's an important distinction to make.
