“This is a castle with royals, I've got a new dress, why have we not had any balls here? A little elegance every now and then can’t hurt.”
“Of course my parents are concerned enough to have my brother called home, but as far as they’re concerned I can stay here to rot. Charming.”
“Haven’t you heard? The sons always get the attention. I’m really sorry though, it sucks to be the one left out. At least you don’t have to see them for a while?”
Blake Lively by Guy Aroch for American Way Magazine
It hadn’t been until recently since Sebastien would find himself waking up to a few birds making their morning song just outside the window, perched upon a branch. As light a sleeper as he was, it wasn’t like Seb to go back to sleep after being awoken - besides, he found that being around the castle early in the morning was refreshing. There were no little kids running around the hallways, no screaming sibling fits about who was to wear the crown or which horse he or she would ride later that day, no - it was quiet. Mornings were majestic at Windsor: the early morning sunbeams cutting through the windows so sharply and brightly that the few particles of dust that the walls offered floated harmlessly down to the red-carpeted ground. It was so picturesque, Sebastien wanted to savor every moment of it. Which is why it became habit for him to wake early and enjoy the lack of company aside from the staff, which he gladly said hello to.
As if the musical gods had lead him there, one of his first discoveries was the beauty of the music room at dawn. Sebastien had never seen a more beautiful scene to play in, and of course, leapt at the opportunity to be part of the fantasy he saw before his eyes. And thus, said reality brought itself to the present day, where for the first time in a long time, he had company - and boy, was he glad that said company was a certain familiar Irish blonde. “Frustrated? Sure, yeah - but considering the difficulty of this piece, ça m’est égal. Pretty impressed with myself, I must say,” he said with a nod and jokingly brushed his shoulder. “And first try, yeah, that’d be correct. I’ve never actually just started to play a piece without looking at it, but I was feeling rather spontaneous this morning.” Sebastien smiled, but shook his head. “That’s the thing, I can’t. Granted, the pieces my mother sends me become increasingly more challenging, so I have her to thank for that. But sight-reading becomes pretty easy after a while, it just takes practice.”
He tucked his hands between his legs and shrugged his shoulders. “What are you doing up so early anyway? I would have pinned you for one who’d take their beauty sleep seriously,” he teased, a sly smile appearing on his face. He made room for her on the piano bench next to him and patted the spot, motioning for her to join him. “Have you ever played before?”
A bright smile lit up her face as she took a seat on the bench next to him. She attempted an offended expression, but she couldn’t keep a straight face when she looked at him. “Normally I do sleep in, but I’ve been awake for a bit and there was just no point in staying in my room.” Truthfully, she forgot to close her blinds the night before and the sunlight that came streaming in made it impossible for her to get back to sleep.
She looked back at the beautiful instrument, lightly setting her fingers on the keys. When neither her parents or brother proved to have musical skill, no one bothered to see if she wanted to learn. “No, I’ve never played anything actually.” Her smile returned as more of a mischievous grin as she turned to look at him again, her wavy hair flowing back over her shoulder. “Would you teach me something? Unless I’m cutting in to your practice time of course.”
Shea let her fingers hover over the keys, deciding then that she wished she had learned to play when she was younger. Her family’s castle had a grand piano of course, but it was only for show. If they didn’t have maids, it would have spent the years collecting dust. Seeing skilled pianists hit all the right notes as their fingers seemed to glide impossibly fast through a pattern she didn’t think she could ever memorize was very intimidating, so she had settled with watching and listening instead. Part of this was from embarrassment, the likely chance she would make a million mistakes, but she felt comfortable around Seb and knew making a mistake in front of him wouldn’t make her feel like a failure.
“I was thinking of going to Camber Sands since it’s actually somewhat sunny today for a bit of sunbathing. Would you like to join?”
“Oooh, definitely! I’ll just need lots of sunscreen, I’m amazed I can even tan as much as I do without burning up in the sun.”
“It would be advised. Can I not drop in on my favourite Irish Princess?”
“Sure, as long as you remember my brain usually doesn’t fully wake up until 10:00...Hey! Nice try, but I’m the only Irish princess.”
“Yeah, I’d rather know who wants to kill me then sit here and wait to be attacked.”
“Come on, our parents wouldn’t have sent us here if they didn’t think the security team was somewhat competent. I’m sure they’ll do what they need to and we’ll be back in our rooms in no time.”
“Does anyone want to explain to me what is going on? I want to get out of here! This is nuts, who wrote that on my wall?”
“They probably don’t want to tell us because they don’t want to scare us, but I think it’s just making it worse.”
A fun one. Get out of bed and let’s do something. I’ve been cooped up in this castle for far too long. The day is young and so are so, so get up.
“Estella? What time is it? Fine, just give me a few minutes. What did you want to do?”
“The sort that brings you breakfast, so no complaints.” She said, pausing a moment, “Well, I brought you a doughnut, anyway.”
“Ooooh, you’re forgiven. Thanks for breakfast Madalina, what are you up to today?”
❝ A tragically dashing one. Now hurry up before I shoot myself in the mouth for agreeing to do this ——- your presence is required in the stables.❞
“The stables? My favourite place, I’m guessing someone told you that? All right, I’m up. Let’s go!”
“15 minutes! We’re already pushing it.”
“All right, all right, I’m done. Where are we going exactly?”

“Shea it’s almost noon! We could have let by now!”
“Why do we leave for anywhere before noon? Just give me a few minutes to get somewhat presentable.”
“I thought it was perfectly acceptable to be in here at almost half past nine in the morning.”
“I need to remember to lock my door at night. What are you doing here, Arthur?”
