me: i donât want to make fun of this person too badly since theyâre probably really young, but wow it was kinda wild that they only really can reference a horrible history of crimes against humanity by thinking of a book about owls
half of you for some reason: you sick fuck why are you making fun of a child? theyâre probably an american child. donât you WANT books to teach the children? would you rather the american child have no empathy?
Hi I am the one who posted that tiktok comment back in 2025. Yeah that was me.
I have a long-ass explanation if that helps.
I am neither a kid, a boy, or an american. I am an autistic canadian woman who was 22 when I wrote that. I am well aware that makes it worse.
I didn't know until today that that specific thing was done during the holocaust. Should I have known that? Absolutely! I really don't know how I avoided ever learning that.
I definitely should've used tone indicators. When I said "that's insane" with three question marks I was trying to say that I was full of shock and horror. I actually could not imagine that ever happening to someone. Same with the phrase "that's like really really bad", it probably came off as immature but I was just appalled and didn't know what else to say.
The reason I brought up the owl books is because oftentimes when a person tells me a really disturbing or sad story I hate saying "empty" phrases, and instead I'll try to say something like "this happened in x media and it was horrible and evil and bad for them to do" because in the moment in my head it means "i may not be able to empathize but I know what happened to you is bad because I read this" but looking back it always makes me feel like a callous person.
I... can't really explain the in-perenthises comment other than I was probably feeling insecure at the time, I was not trying to seem like "lol i'm so quirky I read books" I promise.
I had seen a few of that woman's other tiktoks and I assumed that she wouldn't be hurt by a comment like that. If you think I should go back and delete that comment I will, I can also apologise to the tiktokker.
I'm sorry you got dogpiled because people rushed to defend me, you seem like a really cool and awesome and beautiful person. You can be mad at me I don't mind. I'd rather that then not apologise and let people think you were bullying some innocent cringe american boy.
