in the pathfinder campaign I'm in which has an a plot and a b plot, we came up with pizza plot which consists on the occasional completely improvised session where we play as high stakes pizza delivery drivers for a pizzeria run by an eldritch force called The Board and with a beholder as a mascot. it's kino. i firmly believe all ttrpg campaigns stand to benefit from stupid hijinks like this
My campaigns always have something called the "heist crew" which we'll break out following conclusions of major arcs, or when someone can't make it. They're a band of in-universe thieves that have an impact on the gane for the main party. I'll have them rob places of consequence to the party like a bank they'll soon interact with - creating a quest hook - or a castle of an ally's. Sometimes I'll even have then rob their own home base! It's so funny watching them grapple with setting up defenses that they "know" will foil their heist crew characters, then having to come up with creative ways around the problems they invented thenselves. Also, grand time when for some reason or another they end up meeting or are forced to work together in the main campaign. Highly reccommend.
