They both found it quite funny and it became an inside joke in their marriage. the reason what we do in the shadows really nails it for me is that for about a century & a half now authors have explored vampires as sympathetic characters and the way madness descends upon those with immortality, and they’ve explored what we thought was every possible manifestation of that madness: self-loathing artist, hedonistic partier, compassionless monster, mournful lover, tragic hero, flamboyant villain.

but wwdits said no. there’s another option. and that’s if you live for too long you lose grip on every meaningful conviction you ever had and become an extremely average person who’s likely just. SUCH a loser. you’re going to cycle through ALL of the other vampire archetypes every few months, but ultimately your madness is going to manifest as you just being the guy everyone would invite to a party once, but who nobody would EVER invite back, because, hey, what the hell’s wrong with that guy???

and i think that’s the closest we’ll ever come to truly depicting immortality in media.

i’m extremely obsessed with the way the characters all cycle through iterations of themselves they maybe were once or could have been, but they no longer have grounding in any true personality and moral values, so it’s temporary.
