I’m thinking about Carol Freeman and Jack Ransom.
I’m thinking about how the differences between them make them a stronger command team.
A captain who cares deeply what other people think of her. A first officer who lets other people think he’s dumb if it helps them bond as a crew and get the job done.
A captain who minored in Archaic Technology at the academy, eager to solve problems with her hands and her mind. A first officer whose whole-body physical training regimen is so intense that he impressed a Klingon with his strength.
A captain who is happily married … and deeply worried about her wayward daughter. A first officer who makes a pass at just about anyone … and is able to help the captain’s wayward daughter despite and because of their similar stubbornnesses.
A captain who spoke often about wanting a promotion. A first officer who didn’t seem motivated by rank, yet earned his promotion to become a captain himself, two officers he worked to help—including the no-longer-wayward daughter—his new first officers.
Shared values of tenacity and love for Starfleet. He’ll encourage her to run up the steps. She’ll entrust him with the people she cares about.
I just … I really like their dynamic. Balance through differences and mutual appreciation.
