Sim Bhullar is the first NBA player of Indian/South Asian descent as he was recently drafted by the Sacramento Kings. The 7'5 ft athlete played for New Mexico State University prior to being drafted. Yesterday, June 23, marked the 32nd death anniversary of Chinese American, Vincent Chin who was beaten to death by Ronald Ebens and Michael Nitz. The perpetrators mistaken Chin to be Japanese American and blamed him for their lay-off as a result of the increasing market share of Japanese automakers in Detroit, Michigan. Jeff Chang is a journalist and music critic on hip hop and culture. He's currently the Executive Director of the Institute for Diversity in the Arts + Committee on Black Performing Arts at Stanford University. May 10, 1866: Yick Wo v. Hopkins. Yick Wo owned a laundromat in San Francisco. During this time there was a city ordinance to have a permit for businesses operating in wooden buildings. Wo was then imprisoned by the city's sheriff, Peter Hopkins, for breaking the law. This case was the first in which the U.S. Supreme Court rules discrimination and violates the Equal Protection Clause in the 14th amendment.
