Writing Question
What goal does your main character have for their next scene?
She’d been a teller for a month and already there had been four robberies. The manager was on a headhunt for the “inside man” and she was hoping her past wouldn’t get dragged out into the open.
Dialogue Prompt
“I’m bored.”
“No.”
“What?”
“The last time you said you were bored, I nearly lost my arm. No.”
Writing Question
What’s one aspect of writing that you want to improve this month?
They were one of the most advanced species the Irstrak team had ever come across. Yet they poured their entire energy into collecting new things, breaking them, and rebuilding them into something to sell at the never ending flea market that was their planet. It was a shame, really, that they had gotten their meta-morphing tentacles on the team’s weaponry...
Setting Prompt
An island in the Caribbean before European explorers arrived.
Writing Question
Which of your characters is the least like you? Are they easy or difficult to write?
She became an internet sensation overnight for one act of kindness. However, no one knew it was accidental or, rather, incidental. The fear of being found out was surpassed only by her distress. She’d failed. And with her face plastered all over social media, she knew it wouldn’t be long before they’d find her.
One Word Prompt
Declivity
Writing Question
How many characters are in your current scene?
The cafe was packed, but the guy who offered to share a booth seemed nice enough. He recommended a great dish, balanced the conversation between his own interests and learning more about her, and they lingered over coffee and pie. It had been a wonderful end to a pretty bad day.
Until the police arrived.
Character Prompt
A waiter/waitress who has only worked in restaurants for two weeks.
Writing Question
What is the most important thing you’ve learned from writing?
When they stopped her from getting off the train, she knew it was going to be a bad day.
For them.
Dialogue Prompt
“This isn’t about you.”
“That may be true but it isn’t about you, either.”
Writing Question
What is your antagonist’s goal and why are they driven to achieve it?
He didn’t have a hero complex. He simply was a hero. Unfortunately an unstressed damsel takes advantage.
