i cant stand when characters are like “maybe this time we'll escape the narrative” 🙄 like um the narrative is actually a perpetual cycle that will never end as long as people tell it and you cannot escape it because its end was predetermined the moment it was first told? lol
I love how the message of Frankenstein isn’t “don’t play god and commit hubristic acts of mad science” but instead “when you commit a hubristic act of mad science you are responsible for parenting whatever comes out of it”

I think an underrated horror trope is “insular christian cult worshipping something that slowly reveals itself to be Very Much Not God”. I think it speaks something to the bastardized nature of american christian sects like southern baptist and others. I think in a lot of ways the way colonialism pairs with christianity in the americas really makes it demonic in ways that horror makes powerful statements about.
“There is no god in this church. Nothing but an empty box built on atrocities. You think the christian God watches over America? God did not come with us to this land.”

I’m crying because when my dad was eighteen he was going to join the airforce and then the night before he had a dream that Jesus slapped him in the face with a gigantic fish and asked him what he was doing and he woke up and thought, “Jesus is right what am I doing?” And that’s why my dad did not join the military.
