Walking with a mobile phone is as good as walking with another person. I was so engrossed that day as any other, and so were others, around and ahead of me walking out of the parking lot.
It rained last night and the path from parking lot to mall was filled with water and all kind of stuff.
People had to take a detour to get to the mall because of water and filth.
As I walked with - mobile phone. As all my focus was on mobile phone, I took a glance of the way ahead of me so I don’t fall or falter, and walked four-six steps at a time - did this is repetitive mode. In those few steps I took at a time - I noticed my route JUST ahead of me and caught a glimpse of people who were walking ahead of me - peripheral vision.
I clearly remember that people were stopping near the stairway around the parking lot exit and took a different path. Well, I didn’t paid attention to it; all I did was notice it. As by now, you would have guessed rightly that those people near exit were taking a different route was due rainwater which blocked the way, and they had to circumvent it.
But here is the dumb part:
I too - LIKE OTHERS reached that exact place, see it by myself that I cannot cross this and, then took the other path like others did before me.
Now, here comes the fun part:
I went back where I first noticed people stopping and changing path, and tried to see if it were possible to see the water clogged from there. It’s like in retrospect - could I have seen the problem from a distance before I ran into them and the answer was - YES. The only condition was I needed to stop looking at my mobile phone.
Mobile phone or any technology is not the problem here I want to talk about, it is the fact that I didn’t paid attention to the SIGNALS. Nature and the world in general has too much noise and too few signals, to filter the important from the nonsense - is tough, but certainly not too tough. If only we learned to see others and check how we can learn from there good work and mistakes, we would be far more efficient. May be in the instance I just mentioned, it is not very appealing but, there are moments when we do find ourselves making the same mistakes and taking the same path as others and, unfortunately falling or facing (into) the same pit.
All I needed to do was: Stop, Look, Observe, THINK and make a choice.
