ppl need to chill on the whole “max interfering w mileven thing”. did max give el the best advice? no of course not! max is a 14 yr old who has a playful on-again-off-again relationship. max has spent absolutely zero time w el alone at this point, and isn’t close w mike either. max didn’t witness mike and el’s bond developing in s1, and she didn’t witness mike’s grief for el before s2.
max gives the same advice most 14 yr old girls would give to another. he’s lying to you? get rid of him! i don’t think either max or el think “dumping his ass” is going to be permanent. max thinks mike will come “crawling back” and el doesn’t understands the concept/permanence of “dumping”.
max is the first girl el has ever had a positive relationship with. and only the second girl el has ever had any sort of relationship with (the first being kali). max is the first one to recognise that el’s identity her entire life has been defined by her relationship with men. (first brenner, then hopper and mike), and she gives her an escape from that. (”not mike, not hopper, you.”)
does mike have every right to protest eleven using her powers when it could put her in danger? yes of course he does. but max also has every right to protest his protest. “el is her own person capable of making her own decisions.” she’s right! the thing that she doesn’t understand is mike knows this! max hasn’t seen what happens when el uses her powers to much. she doesn’t realise how damaging it can be. mike does, but to max it comes off as controlling. which is understandable when you realise that mike and el have been acting as their own duo seperate from the party for the past six months. and mike even admitted he did want el all to himself. which is an understandable reaction after the two being seperate for an entire year.
both max and mike were acting in what they believed to be el’s best interests. they weren’t always right, but their actions are understandable.
