I mean, like, statistically there have to be guys on the Ottawa Centaurs who are homophobes. And if they're not coming up on free agency and they don't have the cache to demand a trade (or if they're like "Fuck this, the team just started getting good, why should I have to be the one to leave?") they're going to be stuck there.

But don't worry, this isn't sad, it's hilarious. Imagine the closeted homophobes trying to clock each other in the Centaurs' locker room like they're closeted queer people in ... basically any other locker room. Shane and Ilya kiss in the locker room after a big win and Unnamed Homophobe #1 is glancing around looking for someone else who looks vaguely uncomfortable, thinking, "Is he like me???"

Eventually Unnamed Homophobe #1 and Unnamed Homophobe #2 linger together at the bar long after everyone else has gone home, and they're both drunk and desperately trying to feel each other out and:

Critically: Shane is unaware that any of this is happening. Ilya has known the whole time which members of the team are closeted homophobes and thinks it's the funniest thing ever how long it's taking them to clock each other. Contemplated at one point setting them up on a little homophobe date, but is ultimately unwilling to use his matchmaking powers for evil.

some of the criticism around hudson williams’ met gala makeup is valid

but some of it is in fact racist, intentionally or unintentionally

i’ve seen a lot of people recreate the makeup trying to “fix it” or just list specific changes they would have made, and the simple fact is that the eye makeup that’s possible is entirely different when the eye is entirely different.

hudson williams does not have the eye shape of a white person ! so eye makeup is going to look different on him ! and those differences may not appeal to the average non-asian audience as much !

(not only is it different but in my experience it’s much more difficult. especially on a dude when there’s less area to work with because of a lower browbone)

this is SUCH a weird thing to say, not just regarding harry styles and hudson williams specifically, but just…. as a statement

first of all i’m not going to act like everything harry styles & hudson williams have ever worn is perfect (although hudson williams’ repertoire is pretty close in my opinion) but the specific look he’s talking about (hudson @ the met gala last night) was like…. an objectively good look…. in my opinion….

anyways the part that gave me serious pause was “they naturally wouldn’t have [worn a dress or makeup] if they weren’t celebrities”

what an odd thing to say! what an odd thing to assume! i am not a harry styles fan so from here on out im mostly going to focus on the hudson williams of it all

hudson williams has been extremely gender non-conforming in his work since way before heated rivalry ⬇️

if we see a man on the red carpet in eye makeup and immediately go: “ew cringe, he would never do that if he wasn’t famous” then we are actively enforcing the conformity we say we despise and the fact that some people don’t realize that is insane to me

since celebrities rely on public opinion and popularity as parts of their career, it is extremely rare to find one who does not cater to what society wants from them

hudson and connor were put in an interesting situation: both of their characters are so hypermasculine, but by being a queer show with such an unexpected popularity, there weren’t as many expectations for them to fit into the male celebrity archetypes that have been set out

and even if there were expectations. literally WHO are we to assume that their styles aren’t naturally more feminine than the average man (which hudson williams has explicitly stated)

it IS true that celebrities like harry styles and hudson williams are “undeniably representing queerness” but what’s so wrong with that???????????? both harry and hudson have chosen not to explicitly share their sexuality

if they’re straight, then cool. cishet guys who are willing to wear a lil skirt and put on some glam. why is that a bad thing? isn’t that a good thing???? even if the look is bad (subjectively or objectively) who CARES? we need the bad looks before we get to the good looks, but to get to the good looks we need to normalize the concept as a whole

when we draw these harsh lines between what is queer and what is not, between what is good and what is bad, between what is feminine and what is masculine, we deny fashion the right to progress and destroy any chance we have at breaking down the gender binary that exists so severely ESPECIALLY in the film industry
