love and light to the folks who get to the end of dragon age 2 and go "oh it was SO hard for me to decide what to do with anders!" couldn't be me. the possessed mage husband always lives. we're always fugitives together. "but he blew up the chantry!" yeah pal as far as i'm concerned that's him performing a public service. fuck the chantry.
this scene from the goes wrong show where they cast two different people as the head and hunky, semi-nude body of the same character during a live theatre production haunts my every waking moment
Now THIS is physical comedy
Gonna be singing this (and this) all night.
I recently bought an art book on Caspar David Friedrich, whose emotional work stuck with me since I first saw it in a museum years ago. Over the course of a few weeks, I read about his life and at the same time did studies/interpretations of many pieces. It was a really enjoyable and fulfilling project; here's a good lot of them together :)
I was happy to see many people enjoyed Friedrich's work+my interpretations while posting them individually. It took way too long, but I FINALLY set up a print shop for some of these + some other pieces for those who expressed interest. Thank you so much!

Do not cite the deep magics to me, witch. I was there when it was written.
I was there before it was written.
and like ... actors are actors. Their whole thing is pretending to be other people? Can an actor pretend to be an elf or royalty or an alien but not queer? As long as they’re taking the role seriously, it’s fine.
if a straight person sees something meaningful, beautiful and worthy of emulation in the queer experience, that’s a good thing.
THIS IS SO COOL
woah
This is from ‘Beasts of Burden’, a really cool comic about a bunch of dogs (and one cat) protecting their town from the supernatural things that threaten it. It’s spooky and sad and really just fantastic. At one point they teamed up with Hellboy. Everyone should read it (if you don’t mind some pretty dark things happening. it is not a cheerful comic but it is a good one).
Hey! So, I loved this comic, and still think about it occasionally, and tonight it was linked to me again with just the right timing so that I hyperfocused and squirreled off to go read everything! They aren’t really numbered well, but the Wikipedia page has a list of them in release order and what anthologies to find them in!
But given that it’s a pain to seek out each one one by one, I’ve got a list of links in order a smidge further down! Please try to support Dark Horse Comics if you can, but if you’re broke like me and still want to read, the Internet is a beautiful place. According to the wiki page, there are at least two more installments to come, scheduled for May 1st and June 5th, but there’s no real update schedule for the series as a whole.
Do note: they are graphic, gory, and sad, with a lot of body horror. But they’re really fantastic.
Beasts of Burden: Animal Rites contains: 1. Stray 2. The Unfamiliar 3. Let Sleeping Dogs Lie 4. A Dog and His Boy 5. The Gathering Storm 6. Lost 7. Something Whiskered This Way Comes 8. Grave Happenings
9. Sacrifice (Hellboy Crossover)
Beasts of Burden: Neighborhood Watch contains: 10. Food Run 11. Story Time 12. The View From The Hill (the one in this post!)
13. Hunters and Gatherers 14. What The Cat Dragged In 15. Wise Dogs and Eldritch Men
The trade collection for “Wise Dogs and Eldritch Men” came out a couple of weeks ago, btw.
“Neighborhood Watch” is due out in October and contains more stories than listed above (including the Hellboy crossover).
This is one of my favorite series ever and I’m so glad it’s finally getting proper collections instead of one-off anthology appearances.
Warning, though, the story about Hazel and her pups will *destroy* you.
I usually just say “I’m still here.” And so far only one person has responded in what I consider an appropriate manner. She replied, “it’s good that you’re still here.” That is the only time I smiled from a short interaction like that.
we were the liminal kids. alive before the internet, just long enough we remember when things really were different.
when i work in preschools, the hand signal kids make for phone is a flat palm, their fingers like brackets. i still make the pinky-and-thumb octave stretch when i "pick up" to respond to them.
the symbol to save a file is a floppy disc. the other day while cleaning out my parents' house, i found a collection of over a hundred CDs, my mom's handwriting on each of them. first day of kindergarten. playlist for beach trip '94. i don't have a device that can play any of these anymore - none of my electronics are compatible. there are pieces of my childhood buried under these, and i cannot access them. but they do exist, which feels special.
my siblings and i recently spent hours digitizing our family's photos as a present for my mom's birthday. there's a year where the pictures just. stop. cameras on phones got to be too good. it didn't make sense to keep getting them developed. and there are a quite a few years that are lost to us. when we were younger, mementos were lost to floods. and again, while i was in middle school, google drive wasn't "a thing". somewhere out there, there are lost memories on dead laptops. which is to say - i lost it to the flood twice, kind of.
when i teach undergrad, i always feel kind of slapped-in-the-face. they're over 18, and they don't remember a classroom without laptops. i remember when my school put in the first smartboard, and how it was a huge privilege. i used the word walkman once, and had to explain myself. we are only separated by a decade. it feels like we are separated by so much more than that.
and something about ... being half-in half-out of the world after. it marks you. i don't know why. but "real adults" see us as lost children, even though many of us are old enough to have a mortgage. my little sister grew up with more access to the internet than i did - and she's only got 4 years of difference. i know how to write cursive, and i actually think it's good practice for kids to learn too - it helps their motor development. but i also know they have to be able to touch-type way faster than was ever required from me.
in between, i guess. i still like to hand-write most things, even though typing is way faster and more accessible for me. i still wear a pj shirt from when i was like 18. i don't really understand how to operate my parents' smart tv. the other day when i got seriously injured, i used hey siri to call my brother. but if you asked me - honestly, i prefer calling to texting. a life in anachronisms. in being a little out-of-phase. never quite in synchronicity.
My state senator is such a fucking legend
With all the anti-drag show ban legislations floating around, she proposed this amendment
TL;DR: The amendment defines all church youth groups, retreats, lock-ins, camps, etc as indoctrination camps and proposes to ban all individuals under 19 from attending, and anyone who brings them to one will be charged with a misdemeanor. Any organization that knowingly hosts an indoctrination camp will be fined 10k, and any officers or owners will also be charged with a misdemeanor.
