striving for any sort of “perfection,” be it physical or mental, is a losing game and not one particularly worth playing. a person’s ideas of what constitutes perfection are always changing, which means that upon reaching one ideal, it will likely be replaced with another. even if you DID manage to find satisfaction with your “perfect” state, where does that leave you other than to stagnate and grow bored? 

science has never been about obtaining perfect knowledge of things. it’s about constantly striving to improve the knowledge we already have. all scientific explanations are called theories for a reason—because we’re acknowledging from the getgo that they don’t represent something absolute. science encourages improvement and change, but it doesn’t generally presume that it will ever reach “perfection.” so as loathe as i am to agree with mayuri on anything, szayel’s mindset isn’t exactly one befitting of a scientist. 

also i think its dumb that his idea of perfection is being unkillable. thats boring. pick a more interesting goal. fucking modify yourself so that anything you eat can regenerate you instead of a limited number of your subordinates who may not nescessarily be available when you need them and who you need to regularly replace. transhumanism is the future, bitch.
