I woke up this last morning to my phone notifying me of an email from a sender I don't often hear from in my school email account...was dead tired so I didn't register until eating breakfast that I'd already gotten some hits on my study, so I open my email.

9 people, and a message from my quarantine folder (for anti-spam/-phishing auto-filters that I, very essentially, do not control)

Got a bit overwhelmed, but established a game plan, got emails drafted to send to the 9, then I went "🤔 what if" and opened my quarantine message...

ANOTHER 9 PEOPLE HAD EMAILED ME.

I'VE ALREADY SURPASSED THE LIMIT I TOLD IRB I WOULD INTERVIEW. I'M GRYING WHAT. IS HAPPENING.

Not all of that artificial violence was/is nonideological. Games that for instance allow you to kill sex workers with minimal pushback are through the mechanics defining the range of acceptable behavior for the player to engage in and what will or won’t cause highly negative ingame consequences from occurring as a result of your decisions. Call of Duty is not just artificial violence but a wholesale advertisement for the United States military that trains you to dehumanize America’s many historic and modern enemies through both the content of the story you’re seeing unfold and the very core structure of the game as a first person shooter placing the player in the role of physically enacting these fantastical imperialist fantasies about America conquering the planet. It turns you into a weapon of the American empire’s ambitions. Games, implicitly and explicitly, through narrative and design tell a story. A lot of those stories can be fun, compelling, even moving but some of those stories can also serve to perpetuate harmful ideologies of subjugation that involve the use of fantasy violence being regularly practiced by the player through repetitious acts that reward you for being the perpetrator of violence that mirrors or references real world violence. I don’t think we should totally discount that when it comes to the kind of environment gaming as an identity developed in.

Took me practically 12 hours, but I can say with joy that my PC parts are officially swapped!!!! Ran into a snafu with my mobo video ports not working, but thankfully my gpu has two HDMIs and three DisplayPorts, so I can make do for now and solve that issue later. Also had to deal with the distraction of the roommate (derogatory) continuing to move stuff out and me needing to pull save data from his PS4 and delete my profile (and hopefully the Hulu log-in with it -_-).

But...hah *gestures at my PC like it’s Beau with her cart of fireworks* It’s done! And it saved all my settings??? And my Firefox history and all my apps????? Like...once I finally got my monitors to work, it was literally like nothing had changed? And I legit cried in relief, cuz man was I not looking forward to trying to redownload all my bullshit. For all my consternation, I was rewarded with an immediately-functional computer. So unless a friend wants to chat tomorrow to make up for not talking today (sorry :,b), I might finally boot up AssCreed Valhalla and take her for a spin!
