it is a widely known fact that one should not bother themselves to ask hollanov for any relationship advice because most of the time it involves psychological warfare, but i think the elder centaurs have a more understanding outlook on it compared to the rookies. like young would complain to bood about shane not helpful in the gf advice sector and how they’re insane for doing what they did etc, and bood would glance over and say, “well were you ever afraid of losing your career or passport because you kiss your girlfriend?” and young just 😐 point taken. like the older guys hang out with shane and ilya a lot more often and have watched most of their careers, so i believe they have a more empathetic stance on it all, and the cens overall did find a few particular areas that hollanov are very good at, mostly taking care of your partner

they’re hanging out with friends and bood’s wife cassie asks everyone what the weirdest place they’ve ever had sex was and people start answering “in a public restroom” and “we tried on a plane but it didn’t really work out” and “in a store fitting room” and a few other unconventional places, and then cassie notices that shane and ilya haven’t answered yet and goes “haven’t you guys ever done it in a weird place?” and ilya replies “no, we’re a model couple, just at home, missionary" and everyone laughs and troy says “no one believes that man” and ilya goes “okay, in boodram’s garage” and bood almost yells “WHAT?” and ilya and shane burst out laughing and shane playfully slaps him and says still laughing a little “he’s kidding, we’ve never had sex at any of our friends houses” and cassie presses “so where?” and ilya looks at shane who nods and says “i think the only reason we haven’t had sex on the cottage’s roof yet is because there isn’t a ladder long enough” and harris asks “everywhere?” and ilya and shane nod and everyone falls silent and harris goes “i sat on your couch” and ilya shrugs and troy asks “even in the hammock?” and ilya says “it’s kinda weird but if we’re really pressed together and on our sides—" and shane interrupts “we’ve already given too many details for today” and everyone groans in frustration cus they never share their intimacy and people love to hear about hot couples having sex.

Two things absolutely changed my life as a writer. You ready?

One- Your characters can be bad people, they can do bad things. There doesn't have to be a reason or a moral. You can make them bad if you want to. No other reason needed.

Two- it doesn't have to be good, it just needs to be written. On my last book i literally wrote the words "dumbest version" on the top of the page because I had seen some advice to do that. It changed everything. I stopped trying to make it perfect, I just tried to make it. Period. Full stop. You can edit bad writing. You can't edit a blank page.

And honestly? Defiance is the best writing I've ever done. All because I let my characters be bad and I gave myself the freedom to write it badly.

shane looooovesss shaping ilya’s curls into hearts. the problem is they are curls, so a tiny action could send all his work to waste at once, so both shane and ilya has to be very very still for this whole ordeal. usually shane would find curls that already sort of faces each other and guide them to the desired position, but sometimes the curls beat him and he has to find another one. my point is, one time shane makes a whole head of heart curls (this is an exaggeration, he probably made 5 sporadically) on ilya and he snaps a photo of it. it has ilya’s lovesick eyes looking at him too and so it becomes shane’s homescreen wallpaper (his lockscreen is them hoisting the cup together, thank you very much).

they have a fun interview with harris one day and harris asks to see their lock and home screen photos. it goes semi viral on hockey twt and one of the most popular rt was “roz’s ass down horrendously bad for his husband his hair is proclaiming love lmfao”. that was retweeted by bood, accidentally, after laughing and showing it to cassie.

Having your interests mocked as a kid and general low self esteem will have you insulting the things you like even when they're generally considered very good. Because you like it, and historically when you like something it's stupid and not worth anyone's time. So you will say nonsense like "I recommend this book/game/film, but it's okay if you hate it, it sucks, I really enjoyed it but that's because I'm an idiot" and you are recommending them the Citizen fucking Kane of that particular media type. But actually no, not all takes are equally valid. Framing something as an interpretation doesn’t mean it inherently has merit. yuna is rearranging the living room and picking up shane’s childhood pictures to put them in a new order. she notices that one is missing and she knows exactly which one because it’s one of her favorite pictures of shane, him smiling brightly at the camera with a missing tooth. she sighs and picks up her phone to call ilya and he picks up on the third ring greeting her “hello, yuna” and she says “ilya, dear, i’m afraid you have something mine” and ilya goes “what is it?” and she replies “one of shane’s childhood picture” and ilya goes “yuna, you know i love you like a mother, yes?” and she’s like “yes, dear, i know” and ilya keeps going “i’m not returning this photo” and yuna snorts “ilya, this one is my favorite” and ilya’s like “it’s mine too” and she says “if you return it to me, i promise i’ll make a copy of every single one you like” and ilya goes “you promise?” and yuna says “i promise”. weeks later ilya is sitting there with a copy of the entire photo album.
