because I was unemployed with a psych degree and didn't have firsthand experience with aba in a clinical setting. I quit after a month and never got licensed or technically practiced it. clear enough for you?

#these results. good lord #i worked in an aba clinic for about a month in 2020 #honestly i think there are some solid principles to it but a lot of clinics are understaffed and under-resourced and under-trained #you end up applying broad strokes to kids (and adults) with diverse needs instead of addressing each of them as individual cases #which was harmful. however. the same way you shouldn't use boiled down treatment options as a fix all i don't think it should be written #off as universally harmful because if tailored and tweaked appropriately it can be used to. hm. okay. it provides tools and techniques to #succeed in structures that do not accommodate neurodiversity #the criticism that it punishes displays of neurodiversity isn't untrue but it comes from a place of trying to get these kids #i worked with kids that's why i keep saying kids #to. hhg. outwardly 'pass' as neurotypical because they've faced xyz hardships when they don't/can't #does that make ANY sense??? idk #so i guess point being that it isn't perfect and can be harmful but it's usually well intentioned and can teach some survival strats #obviously i left quickly but that had more to do with the mismanagement and abysmal pay rate and general bullshittery among the staff there #that's another issue in and of itself #not unique to aba at all #aight. that's my two cents
