"over the past 40 years, the United States dismantled a colossal mental health complex and rebuilt – bed by bed – an enormous prison” Bernard Harcourt quoted in Ending the Drug Wars — Report of the LSE Expert Group on the Economics of Drug Policy
Pictures from last monday when the kid and I went to Sète to see and board two Russian 4-masts : the SEDOV and the KRUZENSHTERN.
The Sedov is the biggest sailing ship in the world, so we were thrilled to be allowed on board. My son (who of course is into pirates and ships and everything remotely adventurous) kept joking with the russian sailors and telling me :''This is the best day ever Mom, the best day!''.
Still brings a smile on my face when i think about it.Â

We have a choice: we can enhance life and come to know the Universe that made us, or we can squander our 15-billion year heritage in meaningless self-destruction.
Carl Sagan, 1990
It was said 24 years ago, and same kind of thoughts have been spoken many times before through the history. Despite that, some politicians, drunk with power, don’t just realise which choice is better.

How do you convince anyone of anything when a third of the US like our last president believe we are approaching the End Times and heaven awaits? Who cares about global warming, famine or space exploration if Jesus is going to pluck people up and take them to a better place?
(via joost5)
I hear you, trying to convince end-of-times believers is pointless. This is why the rest of us (yes atheists and others pollute and squander a plenty too) must make an extra effort.
Instead of wasting time and/or tweeting about how it's a shame, we should all just live by the words of Carl Sagan. In the end, even if we are all just collections of organic molecules, we must actively seek to have less of a destructive impact on what surrounds us.
Chuck Berry
Literature is strewn with the wreckage of those who have minded beyond reason the opinion of others.

Watterson just won this year's Grand Prix at AngoulĂŞme's 2014 Comics Festival. I am happy about this.

“The size, shape, smell, texture and sound of a vinyl record; how do you explain to that teenager who doesn’t know that it’s a more beautiful musical experience than a mouse click? You get up off your ass, you grab them by the arm and you take them there. You put the record in their hands. You make them drop the needle on the platter. Then they’ll know.” — Jack White
This I'm teaching my kid (when he turns five :-)
I’ve been an awful good girl…
