this is talandar!! he’s a big fluffy dad who loves his wife very very much and they have tons of ugly babies that they raise together and send to the arcanist and he’s proud of every single one of his babies and sends them all cards and well wishes on the holidays

and this is skelmor! his charge is the love of his life, Radettai

they have STRONG children that they raise, they’re beautiful and protectors and secret keepers and they send them off to become important dragons and teach them to be powerful and never let anything stop them from their dreams, he’s proud of all his children too, even the weak ones that couldn’t make it. He tells the siblings that their family is important and the younger ones who died will help guide the strong and that they’ll always be with you no matter what because family is important

this is my first-ever scatter project!

he’s been scattered once already. annnd somehow his primary stayed the same colour. what are the odds on that.

but! i’m planning to keep him all-basic until i get some colours i’m willing to work with

i wanna get it so his primary/secondary match one of the swatches in this big ol’ image

why this specifically? its a colour chart a friend made for an alien species she has. i wanna make a character of that species based off of this dragon once i scatter him to one of the swatches on here

also i hatched him as a one-year fr anniversary thing so thats why i’m keeping him around in the first place

i casually went to the fae apparel show off thread this week just as a quick peak sort of deal and lo and behold a dragon that I used to own is displayed there on the first page, I recognized her immediately and i’m so proud that the person has kept her and made her so PRETTY

you ever think how fucking awkward ‘the charge conversation’ has to be? Like, if you’re guarding an object or a child from birth, it’s probably a little easier, but just imagine having to tell another grown adult that you feel compelled to protect them at all costs.

Like. How do you do that? Do you just kinda go stand there like ‘well I’m here now’ and not leave? Do you take them out to dinner? Do you plan a speech? Man, imagine being some guardian who’s been preparing their ‘You’re my charge’ speech for YEARS only to discover their charge is like. A fuckin rock that won’t appreciate it.

Is there a ceremony? I feel like the guardian-charge relationship probably has some sort of ceremony attached to it, considering the importance placed on it by the guardians themselves. How are you supposed to convince a rowdy charge to sit still and take these VOWS OF PROTECTION seriously??

Ok but imagine the flip side of this

a young skydancer from wind flight that has no particularly outstanding qualities. They’ve taken into traveling the world to see what it has to offer in order to figure out what their talent and life’s purpose is but every time they think they’ve found something it just turns out that they’re not as good at it as they’d hoped, there was always someone better than them

they keep trying and keep traveling and start growing weary and tired because no clan has really held onto them for very long and never really found anything that struck their heart as ‘home’

they’ve learned about the other dragons, pearlcatcher’s pearls, coatl’s unique language, ridgeback’s borrowing habits, and always found each one unique and special that could never compare to their own empathy, it’s only served them so well to know when they’re not wanted anymore.

it goes on like this for years, this skydancer travels alone slowly loosing their will to continue on like this until one day they notice something’s following them. hard to catch a glimpse of, but a few weeks pass and they’re pretty sure its a guardian that seems apprehensive to approach them.

it only takes a few more days before this massive creature finally brings up the courage to speak, awkwardly stammering and trying to hide how nervous they are. “y-you’re my...”

the skydancer cuts in, eyes shining as they place their foretalons on the guardian’s shoulder “I know.”
