stillness

summary: small love.
It comes to your realization that you love Bruce on a snowy Saturday – he’s in another room, but his voice still carries over the winter stillness of the air as you both had locked yourselves inside the warmth of your apartment for the whole week, and as you focus on the lilt of Bruce’s voice – it’s more monotonous and a little strained as he bores on about stock rates and expenditures to some secretary, something dawns on you – almost suddenly.
You could listen to him drone about almost anything so you can hear the tailored cadence of his words, the little inflections when he says the word ‘incentivise’ a little too many times in conversation; but no one ever corrects him because he’s Bruce Wayne, and a little voice in your mind quickly adds, he’s my Bruce Wayne.
But, you don’t linger on your thoughts for long because a small beep followed by a loud sigh leads Bruce back into the bedroom, leaning against the door post with his dishevelled hair sticking up in all directions as he types on his phone; the little taps of his fingers hitting the screen are the only thing you can hear in the quiet of the morning, and you turn around in your warm duvet cover, rustling the sheets and staring at him long enough until he decides to drop the phone on the birch wood bedside table, looking at you with a raised eyebrow,
“What’re you smiling about?”
“Nothing.” Your voice is thick with sleep and slightly muffled against the pillow as he reaches out a hand to hold your face with, but you recoil,
“Your hands are so fucking cold, oh my god, Bruce.” It draws a laugh out of him, which makes you smile as you pull the covers further up your face to avoid his hands, but he pushes them down anyway and you don’t stop him as he places his palm on the curve of your jaw, fingers lightly trailing your cheek and he smiles – and you almost fucking melt there, becoming putty in his hands if you could because god-fucking-dammit. You love him.
“Now will you please move over so I can join you?”
(maybe he does too.)
