I recently just got out of the hospital and got some pretty sombering news ... I am losing my vision and we don't know for sure if they can fix it. So if I stop posting please don't think I just up and left, bc truthfully I don't know how I will be able to post without my sight, I want to thank everyone for being so welcoming and allowing me to share the joy of our fandom. The only reason Thorin is on speaking terms with the elves of murkwood is because they have flowers. Flowers Thorin needs if he wants to impress bilbo. Bouquets start showing up one day and haven't stopped since. Bilbo is overjoyed to have greenery in the mountain and always shows his appreciation. When he comes across a bouquet filled with his mother's favorite flowers he can't help the sobs that escape his mouth. To see something that truly reminds him of home fills him with such a mixture of joy and remorse that it takes him an hour to stop crying. Thorin is filled with such worry and anger. He knows hobbits have a secret language of flowers and believes the elves had sent a horrible message to his Hobbit. He was plotting ways to torture the elves when Bilbo finally calms down and admits it was his mother's favorite and if there was anyway to get more. Thorin decides the elves may live and promptly writes, demanding more

What if thorin made Bilbo a garden? Thorin has read up on hobbit customs( ori passes him a book he writes in every time Bilbo speaks about himself and hobbit stuff) and has learned that building a garden is basically a marriage proposal. So everyday, EVERYDAY, Thorin is out there in that garden tending to it. Even going so far as to talk to king thranduil on purchasing certain plants that Bilbo has mentioned in passing that he favors.
