hi hello!!! this blog has been suuuper dead. mod tragedy is super busy, and i think qce might've just lost interest in tumblr altogether, but im still around!! (also, im engaged to my qpp now??? queerplatonic MARRIAGE is REAL guys)

unfortunately i dont think im all that good at coming up with prompts on my own :( i started this blog because i really want to see more qprs written about and drawn in fandom! ill try my best to come up with some ideas if there's still interest in filling this niche! in the meantime, the inbox is always open for you to send prompts of your own!!

now, this part is slightly unrelated but since this blog has been dead, i want to say it somewhere! i know a while back there was a movement to start (tagging QPRs on AO3) with the tilde (~), but AO3 support didn't go for implementing the idea on their own? if i recall correctly, they told everyone to just do it themselves and added the idea to a waitlist. which... means we'll probably never see it, given AO3's track record :(

but since then, ive come across a different archive project that's just like AO3 called squidgeworld archive (SqWA)! they've (officially implemented the tilde as a relationship marker, as well as given QPRs their own relationship category)! its been super refreshing to be able to correctly tag and post fanfictions on there as QPR and have it be recognized, so that's where ive mostly been posting my own works. the tag wranglers on SqWA are also super quick to canonize tags and make them available for everyone to use, so it's very easy to trailblaze a fandom on there, and squidge is extremely responsive to their users so it feels a lot nicer than AO3 :)

Survey Results for the Queerplatonic/Alterous AO3 Relationship Tag

HI YALL

this post is gonna be a followup of (this post right here), but if you have no idea why I'm making this post, I'll give you the tldr!

A while back, I decided to post a survey regarding tagging queerplatonic relationships/alterous relationships on AO3. With just over 200 responses and the survey now closed, the most favored tag has been decided by popular vote: you guys!!!

I wasn't really expecting to get so much feedback! BUT, I'm proud to announce that the most favored tag for tagging queerplatonic and alterous relationships on AO3 is none other than:

Character A ~ Character B

I will be contacting AO3 support with the queerplatonic/alterous tag proposal!

If you guys would like to contribute, keep reading! Since a tag has been decided by popular vote by you guys for tagging queerplatonic/alterous relationships on AO3, I say it's time to start implementing it!

If you have a queerplatonic/alterous relationship tagged on AO3 as either "A & B" or "A/B", I implore you to go in and manually replace them with "A ~ B".

What will this do? Well, the goal is to start using this tag so that AO3 can properly recognize it and give it its own category. You can't categorize something that isn't in use yet, after all!

(When tagging, I found that using spaces between the symbol and the names helped to improve readability, so just like when you're tagging "Character A & Character B", put a space in between to get "Character A ~ Character B" !)

This makes me really happy to see! (I'm also frustrated that I went looking for this exact sort of thing and was unable to find it, but that's a separate issue.) I love that so many aspec people looked at our keyboards and went, 'yeah, the tilde, that's the one.' If it's of use or helpful to anyone, I wrote in about this exact thing a while ago and got a response somewhat recently. It's a long response, but I'll put it in here and hope that people can spread it around if it's helpful to get this going. "Thanks for contacting us, and apologies for the late reply.

Currently there does not seem to be a widely-agreed upon symbol for this type of tag.  Even just within the suggestion tickets that we have received, users have suggested multiple possible symbols, including *, +, and %.   However, the biggest problem with these suggestions is that most of these symbols are not possible to include in tags, for technical reasons (these symbols have other meanings in computer coding).  Tags cannot include any of the following symbols: , ^ * < > { } = ' \ %   The plus symbol is possible on a technical level, but is already used in other contexts, such as being commonly used in some anime and manga fandoms to indicate G or T rated romantic relationships.  Tags including the plus symbol are typically synned to the / relationship tag, although there is no hard and fast rule on this as its use can vary from fandom to fandom.   

Current tag wrangling guidelines mandate that descriptors in Relationship tags should be synned to the relevant tag without a descriptor, if possible.  So within the Relationship field, Married X/Y would be synned to X/Y, Past X/Y is synned to X/Y, and Queerplatonic X/Y would likewise be synned to X/Y.  The exception would be if the descriptor expressly contradicts the symbol, then we would likely use the descriptor instead.  So for instance, X/Y Friendship would be synned to X & Y, and Romantic X & Y would be synned to X/Y.       

This does not mean, however, that it becomes impossible to find that content.  Even if a tag is synned to another tag, you can filter for specific versions of the tag using the "Search within results" field in the sidebar filters and entering the specific tag you wish to look for.  However, it will not automatically retrieve similar but not identical tags - so filtering for just "Queerplatonic X/Y" in the Search within results field would not provide results for "Queer Platonic X/Y" or "QPR X/Y" or "X and Y are queerplatonic partners".

Our best recommendation for any tags that involve descriptors of characters or relationships is to put those types of tags in the Additional Tags field.  There, if the tag receives enough use, the wranglers are free to create a canonical form that preserves the relevant information and to link synonymous tags together. This would also mean that creators could use the symbols of their choosing - if they want to use "Queerplatonic X+Y" or "Queerplatonic X~Y" or "QPR X & Y", all of those tags could be linked together by the tag wranglers if it's clear they refer to the same concept.  There is also a general "Queerplatonic Relationships" additional tag that can be used if desired, whether alone or in conjunction with other relationship tags.

Within the Relationship field, the & and / symbols are already used to cover multiple varieties of relationship.  For instance, & typically designates family relationships as well as friendships, while / designates romantic relationships but also sexual relationships - and even then, people will use them in other ways as well (for instance, as I mentioned, the existence of tags such as X/Y Friendship).  We can't control how users tag, so trying to enforce a standard that everyone will accept is impossible, and we don't pre-create tags.  We can only suggest that, by using Additional Tags, users can make their intentions as clear as possible, by using tags such as "Queerplatonic X+Y", and we will canonize those tags as quickly as possible.  For instance, here are some examples of Additional Tags to refer to queerplatonic relationships that have already been canonized:

We've added your suggestion of using the ~ symbol as an official queerplatonic relationship indicator to the list our Tag Wrangling Committee review as they plan updates to the Archive. User input lets us gauge interest in various features, and helps us better plan Archive upgrades.

Ah, thank you so so much for emailing AO3 support! Back when this poll had concluded, I did email AO3 support about whether or not adding a specific Queerplatonic tag indicator was possible, but I never received a response from them. It makes me happy to see that my suggestion of already using the tilde as a tag so AO3's tag wranglers can recognize it en masse is the correct way to go about this!

While I have been using the tilde as a Queerplatonic/Alterous relationship indicator on AO3 already, the Squidgeworld Archive already recognizes the tilde as an official category for Queerplatonic/Alterous relationships; though that archive is still small, SqWA was happy to implement the category. I now regularly post my works to both archives!

I suppose the only thing we have left to do for AO3 is continue to manually tag the tilde even though the tag is not an officially recognized category on AO3 yet. The more people who see the tag in use, the more use it will receive!

Is there gonna be an AO3 collection for QPR February works? Maybe not for this year since it's already pasted but like if you host the challenge for 2023 will there be one for that year?

I will admit that neither of us are opposed to the idea, but the fact remains that neither of us know exactly how to run or maintain a collection of works on AO3. If there is interest in a QPR month collection on AO3, we will look into the idea and give our best attempt to figure it out.

QPR February Challenge 2022 Day 28: Free day!

I had two ideas for the crime prompt, so here's the second one! Like the first crime prompt, this was written with @gender-snatched. Unlike the first one, this one is Bella and Alice from Twilight (sorry). Tags and info under the cut!

Also, I hope everyone has enjoyed this month as much as I have! I loved having an excuse to write some ships I usually don't write, and I got to write so many qprs! It was a wonderful experience, and hope I'll be able to do this challenge again next year if it's an annual thing!

Summary:

The kiss was a distraction. Len doesn't know why it's bothering Mick so much. Not when there are real things to be mad about.

Snippet:

"You wouldn't stick to the plan, Mick. You wouldn't get out of the fucking warehouse. You're damn lucky it was just the cops who nearly rumbled us, and not Lewis." Len's eyes drop to the dried blood clinging to Mick's bandages. "Nearly got us both killed."

Mick nearly got himself killed.

Same thing, in the end. Len would never have survived that.

Mick shrugs, wincing a little. "I was only gonna stick around long enough so your fucker of a sperm donor knew we got his shit. What's the point of a damn revenge plan if the evil guy doesn't know you got revenge?"

"This wasn't revenge, Mick. This was a tip-off about a score we knew Lewis wouldn't have the good sense to guard closely. It was an opportunity. Nothing more."

Mick levels a flat look at Len. "Is that right?"
