I’ve been reading a lot of fanfics in this particular fandom and, as a Russian, there’s like… little things that constantly bother me. Don’t get me wrong, the works are amazing, but every time I see this little innacurate details in a really good piece I’m like… slightly dissapointed lol

So here’s a couple things from a native speaker and someone who actually lives in Russia. (Also pardon my grammar, since English is not my first language).

One of my favorite parts of the Hunger Games was how, in the beginning, Katniss was jealous amd resentful of the townies for not having to work in the coal mines. Then, over time, she realizes they aren’t the true enemy. Then she sees the other district kids as so much better off than she is, because at least they don’t come from district 12. But then she realizes they aren’t the enemy either. And then she hates the other victors, before realizing they have all been exploited just as much as she has. So the enemy must be the Capitol citizens, who benefit from the exploitation of the districts, right? Wrong again. They are just uninformed and pampered people who have been kept in the dark about the true horrors faced by the rest of the country. Most of them, when push comes to shove, are perfectly willing to help the war efforts.

And slowly, over the three books, all theses separate factions of downtrodden people start to see each other as allies instead of enemies, and that is what propells them to eventual victory over the true enemy, the government that tried to pit them against each other. Just fun, totally fictional things to think about that have nothing whatsoever to do with our current life.

For most of college everyone thought you were deaf when in reality you just don’t like talking and learned sign language at a young age. You never corrected anyone until someone confessed their love for you, thinking you couldn’t hear them.

Quynh was a singles figure skater until she landed a jump wrong and broke her ankle in a career-ending fashion. She didn’t want to quit the ice yet and her ankle was fine to skate but not jump on so she decided to try ice dancing.

Nicky is an ice dancer who recently had to break with his career-long partner who was pressuring him into making bad decisions for his career.

In a sport with very little turnover in partnerships, they are two odd-people-out. They decide to team up and move to a new club to start fresh. There they train with two other ice dance couples- Andy & Joe, Booker & Nile. Andy and Joe in particular seem to have the sport all figured out, which is intimidating when Nicky and Quynh are still trying to find their rhythm.

Will this partnership work out? Will the stress of trying to break through this season break them? And what happens when Nicky and Quynh discover they’re not the only queer ice dancing team in the rink?

Okay no one asked but it’s ice dancing- I am physically incapable of not rambling about it (also I’ve been missing it so much because this season has been so weird), so here’s my skating/program style thoughts for this AU:

Joe & Andy would have the chemistry/intensity of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir but with a touch more power like Madison Hubbell and Zach Donohue. It’s a major shock when it comes out that they aren’t dating each other. Andy would hate fluffy skirts and try to be in a one piece or a tight-fitting skirt as much as possible. When the Latin themed rhythm dance comes around, it’s her personal hell.

Once they find their groove, Quynh & Nicky would have more abstract/ modern dance type programs, kinda like Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron. Their lifts, however, are athletic and complex (like Madison Chock and Evan Bates) and make full use of Nicky’s broad shoulders and Quynh’s taste for danger. They also become the champions of the reverse lift and with Quynh lifting Nicky sometimes.

Nile & Booker would have The Best Music for their programs. Great edits, no weird transitions, and it’s more accessible. I’m thinking along the lines of the Shibutanis’ music (their “That’s Life” program is the one I show people when they ask what ice dancing is because the music is engaging and the choreo is fun). Even when they take on the classic ice dance music (like Swan Lake), they put their own spin on it and freshen it up so the audience doesn’t get bored. They’re a little slower across the ice but make up for with with the depth of their edges. Once, they came out with a program so emotionally prowerful, people in the audience cried.
