“A kiss may be grand, but it won’t pay the rental, on your humble flat, or help you at the automat.”
Like literally the most famous song about how much girls love jewellry is just explaining the importance of getting jewellry for when your partner leaves you penniless and alone.
The founder of Girl Scouting in the US, Juliette Gordon Low, funded her first troop by selling her pearl necklace, which was her only belonging after her husband died and left everything to his mistress.
She founded Girl Scouts to teach girls self-sufficiency so they wouldn’t have to go through what she went through when her husband died and she didn’t know how to take care of herself.
While we’re on the subject, let’s please also remember that historically disenfranchised communities who had to worry about frequently being run out of town often bought expensive jewelry with their limited funds not because they were greedy or tacky or classless, but rather because you can’t sew a real estate investment into the lining of your coat, and the powers that be can’t freeze a diamond necklace the way that they can freeze a bank account.
as a targaryen named daeron, you’re either the barber or the barbee; this distinction will decide your fate.
Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is seventeen. Any adult in this fandom even remotely sexualizing him needs to ask themselves why they see a child's face and start lusting. Write an aged-up book Daeron AU if you want to use his storyline, the idea of a Targaryen raised by Hightowers is damn interesting and I might write one myself one day, but let's not use a teen's face while we do it, shall we.
I can get behind most of the changes in IWTV & TVL as tv adaptations but good lord I absolutely loathe (and I mean from the bottom of my heart loathe) Claudia’s sexual assault. I hated it in seasons 1 and 2 of Interview with the vampire and I hate it just as much in The vampire Lestat.
I can’t fathom the writers’ idea to take book Claudia, age her up and have her get raped (attacked, kidnaped and raped for a week straight btw) just so that they could parallel that experience & trauma with Lestat and Magnus. At today’s day and age I think we’ve reached a point where our female characters don’t have to get sexually assaulted in order to toughen up or even worse having them get assaulted so that the writers can use that assault to further develop the arc of a male character(s).
And no, I don’t care about how cinematic Lestat’s backstory combined with Claudia’s own words about Bruce seemed or that Louis had his hot girl moment while killing his daughter’s rapist. And while the intention of the writers might not have been misogynistic, it is still an extremely misogynistic trope.
GWAYNE come save your child from the clutches of the evil evil man named ormund hightower
-gwayne thinking ormund was “cruel”
-daeron being adept at reading omund’s emotions, anticipating his anger, and then trying to protect other people from it
-tessarion acting protective of daeron around ormund
-ormund acting “fatherly” while raising daeron to dislike his actual father
-ormund raising daeron to think of himself as “different” from his “savage” family-but only thanks to ormund of course. if daeron disappoints ormund, he’s returning to his “savage” origins
-the irony of alicent thinking she saved daeron from a doomed upbringing while unknowingly sending him off to something worse
yeah, more like ormund groomtower
I think Corlys did this before he left not because it’s true but because it’s funny
gwayne after five minutes in harrenhall:
Tump dies tonight while giving his speech in the hot hot sun. Like to charge, reblog to cast
Watched a documentary about abuse and advice one guy said to give children was, "Tell them that if someone is hurting them, to tell someone - and don't just tell one person. Tell as many people as possible, and keep telling as many people as possible until the abuse stops." and i really liked that
Bc so many ppl focus on the idea of telling A Trusted Adult, but even a well-meaning individual can fuck up and let abuse fall through the cracks or not know what to do
Whereas if a child tells LOADS of adults AND other kids, there's far less opportunity for an abuser to do damage control
Consistently telling their story and spreading it around disempowers the abuser to control and coerce the flow of information, or to utilise gaps and weaknesses in systems of reporting or welfare to isolate the child
Just really good advice. Not suprised I don't hear it more often.
GIVE UP ON HARRY POTTER. daniel radcliffe is fucking megan thee stallion on his new tv show and jumping over cars like a teen wolf werewolf get into THAT

You can tell a lot about a person by entering their mind palace and encountering their greatest fears and darkest hopes in a labyrinth reflective of their subconscious thoughts.
waaaay back when I was a cashier in retail we would talk about dumb shit while unloading the truck, and we got to the "what would you do in a zombie apocalypse" me and another worker were like yeah we would just die. End it all, we can't fight or run or shit. I refuse to put that much effort into survival.
And my manager was like no!!!! If that happened, I would drive to find you guys in my truck and we could eat stuff from my wife's garden and I would make sure everyone I know survived!! I would carry you all on my shoulders away from the zombies!!
Anyway, random shout out to that guy. You were too kind for retail management, Devin.
also afterwards everyone who was talking about their cool bunker fantasies were like "Damn, Devin's right, we should also be considering helping people around us." which is the only recorded instance of a retail shift making people better human beings.
We don’t talk about Leia killing Jabba enough. Her grandmother and father were born into slavery. Her blood was that of the desert sand and the shackles of bondage. Leia was never more a Skywalker than the day she strangled her slave master with the very chains he used to bind her. The daughter of Anakin Skywalker was the one who killed Tatooine’s most notorious slaver, and I find that really beautiful.
