We interrupt the usual rhythm of Fungus Friday to give you a lesson on fairy rings!
A fairy ring, also called a fairy circle, fairy court, fairy walk, witches’ ring, or pixie ring, is a naturally occurring ring or arc of mushrooms. Fairy rings can grow in open grassy areas, like lawns, fields or pastures, or in woodlands, in symbiotic relationships with trees.
A fairy ring marks the outer limit of a fungal colony hidden underground. The mycelium of the colony spreads outwards from the centre in all directions, seeking nutrients; once the nutrients of the soil in the centre are exhausted, the centre dies and fruiting bodies spring up in a ring or arc. Fairy ring growth is also marked by necrotic zones- rings, arcs, or patches of grass or other plant life that has withered and died from lack of nutrients. Over sixty mushroom species grow in rings, the most common of which being marasmius oreades (fairy ring champignon), agaricus campestris (meadow mushroom), and the poisonous chlorophyllum molybdites (false parasol).
Fairy rings are deeply intertwined in folklore around the world; in Germany, they were thought to be the sites of witches’ dances on Walpurgis Night; in parts of Austria, they are said to be formed by the fiery tails of dragons; in the Philippines, they are inhabited small nature spirits; in many Western European traditions, fairy rings were formed by fairy or elves dancing. Disturbing or trespassing upon a fairy ring is said to bring great misfortune upon the trespasser, whether that be eternal entrapment inside the rings, curses to dance until death, exhaustion, or madness, dying at a young age, being hanged, or just plain old bad luck. Outside of folklore, the most dangerous thing to come of an interaction with a fairy ring is mistaking the common and edible marasmius oreades for similarly appearing poisonous mushrooms like chlorophyllum molybdites or clitocybe dealbata.

Overlock Stitch by @clothes_reetzy
Damn, that's useful
Finally a hand sewing tutorial on a hemline that isn't just the ladder stitch! the ladder stitch disappears when you tighten it, but it's not meant for hemlines because it breaks really easily! The overlock stitch is more stable, so it holds much longer, and it won't pucker or warp the fabric!

Vessels of Expression
This Friday’s fungus is marasmius oreades, commonly known as fairy ring champignon or Scotch bonnet mushroom (not to be confused with the Scotch bonnet pepper). It is a basidiomycete with a mostly flat cap, often with a bump in the middle of the surface and an uplifted margin (edge of cap). It is usually pale tan or yellowish, and occasionally white. Marasmius oreades grows in ‘fairy rings’ in lawns, meadows, and other grassy areas. While marasmius oreades is best known, over sixty other discovered fungi species grow in rings. Mushrooms like agaricus campestris (field mushroom or pink bottom) and chlorophyllum molybdites (false parasol or green-spored parasol) are commonly misidentified. Mistaking poisonous mushroom species like chlorophyllum molybdites or clitocybe dealbata for the harmless marasmius oreades can cause serious and potentially fatal poisoning; please do not pick wild mushrooms unless you are an expert, and always be careful of what you touch. Marasmius oreades is considered a choice edible mushroom and is native to North America and Europe.

......suddenly struck by the idea for a piece of worldbuilding of "fae don't like iron bc it is the most stable element*"
*as in elements higher you can extract energy via fission and lower you can extract energy via fusion but iron itself there is no excess binding energy to extract at all
