My frog dish is going out today!
If there are frogs or toads in your area consider leaving a dish out to collect rainwater!
Frogs and toads are good for your garden and eat bugs
Please be careful if you have a dog! Dog and amphibian interactions can be dangerous or even deadly to both!
People who let their cat outside do not do this and also bring your fucking cat back in
@is-the-owl-vid-cute
I am once again clarifying that I do not know any more about dove husbandry than the average person. @theramseyloft is a better resource for questions on these sorts of videos.
The way he’s holding the dove is a very common dove hold though, and the bird is not showing any signs of stress. He likely hand-reared it for this purpose, and it is used to being manhandled that way. I do not know how much the average pigeon cares really.
The ethics on releasing doves at funerals and weddings are debated, but I don’t know enough about it to weigh in from an educated point of view beyond saying it’s free hawk food if they aren’t careful. The doves (are supposed to) return at some point though, so it’s not intended as releasing a domestic animal forever.
People often mistake “your feelings are valid” with “your reaction based on your feelings is ok”
Which isn’t the same thing
You’re entitled to how you feel. You’re not entitled to behave however you want based off of those feelings
Reminder that when people are talking about a famous person who's morally corrupt, picking apart their appearance validates the concept that ugliness is equivalent to evilness.
Talking about how a famous person who has autistic traits is weird effects those who are not neurotypical.
Making fun of a jewish person who's famous, specifically for their appearance, is Antisemetic.
Making fun of a person who is very ill for bruising, skin deformities, etc, is hurting people who have facial differences.
I know its built out of an anger about corruption. I know you dont feel you are not talking about your friends who may have those traits. I know. But remember your words effect others, and be careful that you dont harm your loved ones, or for any reason, people who look like those who you are insulting.
u know what hurts? making a npd posi post and seeing tons of people on it like “this is the first positive npd post ive seen!” like that’s?? literally ridiculous?? we should create a bunch of npd positive posts ill start
people w npd are beautiful lovely people
people w npd deserve to be happy
people w npd deserve to have a constant source of attention
people w npd are valid
people w npd deserve love
Saw this on Facebook. Reposting for the PSA.
As I’m always a skeptic and had never heard of this, I had to look up more information. Very true, and here are excellent sources if you want to learn more - 1 and 2
Most flowers, houseplants and succulents at home depot have been treated with neonicotinoids, and this is true of most major big box stores like it. To avoid these pollinator unfriendly pesticides, consider supporting small greenhouses that don’t use them. Many smaller specialty plant shops eschew their use and thanks to the internet many of them also sell online.
I’ve been seeing a lot of anti-Nazi ones, which is great, but I felt like we needed one to show our support for the Jewish community.
all you goyim I follow - I see you reblogging this and it warms me.
i think i cracked the code on why people are reluctant to admit cats are an invasive species, like okay i used to be in the same boat bc i was like "what cats arent bad theyd never disrupt an ecosystem!" and i think its because we ascribe human morality to animals all the timeeee and like an invasive species doesnt say "time to ruin this ecosystems whole day >:)" theyre just...doing their thing and it has negative repurcussions for the world around them, theyre not "bad" in a moral sense. but yeah. keep your kitties indoors if you can, save some birds lives
& if "save some birds lives" isn't reason enough for u to keep your cat inside...
Your cat can get FIV+ (incurable) outside, it's transmitted through spit, mostly deep bite wounds but also if they eat or drink together. if a pregnant cat has FIV+ her kittens will most likely have it.
Your cat can get heart worms (incurable) because it's from *gasp* mosquitoes. As well as other worms, and can give worms to your other animals.
"But they get bored" get a toy then? put some effort into keeping your cat happy and healthy.
FIV is not transmitted through water or food, mainly just deep bite wounds. It's specifically transmitted through saliva-blood contact, and RARELY transmitted from mother to baby (although that definitely does happen). A might higher concern would be FeLV, which is much easier transmitted (through shared food/.water, and mutual grooming), has an 85% fatality rate within 3 years of diagnosis, and will cause anemia and lymphoma. Also, outdoor cats are at risk of being attacked by wildlife, being attacked by shitty humans, hit by cars, starvation in (urban areas), ingestion of toxins (rat poison/antifreeze), and you as an owner are much less likely to notice health issues or abnormalities because you cannot observe water and food intake, urine and fecal output, any instances of vomiting/diarrhea. Just adding to the above, but also important to know that FIV is not automatically a death sentence and definitely not the worst thing that can happen to your cat outside. It is an autoimmune disorder that severely weakens the cat's immune system, however, which can definitely increase their chance of contracting infections from outside.
If nothing else keep your cats inside because there are so many unknown elements outside your front door. From the water gathered in a puddle having any number of dangerous chemicals from car run off to cars themselves and other predators.
If you have an outdoor cat and it gets sick the vet could have a hard time treating and identifying the problem if you have no idea what your cat could have gotten into.
Not to mention a lot of popular garden flowers and plants are toxic and fatal to cats. Lily pollen is fatal if it gets on them and they ingest it, which they will if it gets on their fur and then they clean themselves.
Cats enjoy chewing on plants, and they're not magically smart, this isn't Warrior Cats, they haven't learned the difference between safe plants and bad plants. They are dumb if adorable animals. They will chew on normal grass and they will chew on poisonous plants because they can't tell the difference.
Outdoor cats also have to suffer from fleas and ticks, and all the diseases they can transmit, and God forbid your cat is allergic to either of them.
When my cat got outside and went missing, we found another orange and white cat that some people directed us to to try and help, but it wasn't her, it was an old ridiculously friendly cat a few streets away missing most of its fur with bloody gashes and oozing wounds all over its body. Literally covering its body. Fresh wounds, scabs, scars, this entire cat was covered in fucking wounds.
I tried to ask around to see if it was anyone's pet, and found that some of the people who live there said it was theirs and that it was allergic to fleas, but they weren't going to bring it inside.
We called the ASPCA because it was a very clear case of animal abuse. The ASPCA didn't give a fucking shit.
I've checked back there several times now hoping to be able to catch this cat so that I can pay someone to bring it to the ASPCA personally, but I haven't seen it since. I can only assume, and hope, that died and is no longer in complete misery.
And then there's Cali, the cat us in a group of friends had to literally take from a now ex-friend, because she never fed them, she never gave them fresh water, and when Kelly came limping home one day with a mangled leg, they didn't do anything. Another friend offered, not only to take this cat to the vet, but they offered to pay for all of the vet expenses and do everything to get this cat the help it needed.
It would have cost this ex-friend literally nothing, not money, not time, nothing. The only thing it would have cost is compassion and basic human level of caring for the animal she claims to love.
The other friend was literally begging her to let her help this poor cat. And the ex-friend refused, even when it literally would have cost her nothing she would have had to do a single thing except agree to let this cat get the help it needs.
Eventually, we managed to get Callie and the other outdoor cat away from her, but by then his leg was permanently damaged, and he's going to limp for the rest of his life, although thankfully it doesn't seem to cause him pain.
I have never seen an outdoor cat that was not in terrible physical condition, as well as the general abuse of being forced outside in the elements to fend for itself against everything nature has to throw at it.
The ex-friend didn't even bring her cats indoors when it snowed until we literally carried the cats inside ourselves.
The ex-friend was also abusing a dog, literally leaving it chained up outside it's entire fucking life, even in 100 degree weather, even with snow, never interacting with him never petting him he was literally just a fucking trophy to be chained up outside. She never refilled his water. She never refill his food. When he was inside, he was in a Crete several fucking times too small for him so that he didn't even have room to move, shoved into a corner filled with cardboard so that Not only was this dog shoved into a crate to fucking small, he was breathing in his own dust and fur.
Again, we called the ASPC fucking a. All they did was tell them to get a bigger crate. Didn't even mention anything about interacting with this fucking animal instead of leaving him chained up outside literally all day and pretending he doesn't fucking exist except to spray him with the hose as punishment for barking.
People who keep cats Outdoors don't care about the cats. They care about having a trophy, something to show off.
It doesn't matter where you fucking live, cats are an invasive species everywhere on this planet. There will always be dangerous to your cat. It doesn't matter if you live in the country, so you think there aren't any cars that will kill or main your cat. It doesn't matter if you live in the city, so you think there aren't any predators that will kill your cat.
There will always be Predators. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they're not there. They literally hide from humans. They aren't exactly in the business of walking around in broad daylight for everyone to see them. That's how you get fucking killed.
There have been several sightings of coyotes in my city. Deer run through the streets at night. We had a fucking bear running loose a few years ago.
Just because you don't see the Predators did not mean they're not there. Most of them are nocturnal, and literally anyone who has ever owned a cat will tell you that cats have no fucking problem with running around at night.
There is literally no excuse to abuse and neglect your cat by forcing it outside to fend for itself like it's a wild animal. There is no excuse to justify the danger you are putting native prey species in.
63 different species of already gone extinct because of domestic cats. Anyone who allows that number to get higher by letting their cats outside is a horrible fucking person and their animals need to be taken away from them before the animals die.

Hello do you have any recommendations for small (like grape?) beginner tomatoes for someone who lives in Portland (oregon) your tomato post was very informative but I'm not sure how to get started
The Sweet 100′s or Indigo Cherry tomatoes should grow well there!
Tomato Care Basics:
Tomato does best with full sun (6 or more hours in direct sunlight per day) and regular watering, but don’t water it if it’s dirt is still wet.
Tomato roots are almost as big as the plant is above ground, so make sure your tomato has either a HUGE pot (I used the bigass tubs people use to store christmas decorations or other shit) or is put in the ground.
Make sure to put 2-3 eggshells crunched up real fine under your tomato when you put it in the ground/pot so it has enough calcium, or use a good tomato fertilizer if you think your dirt isn’t that good (Fox Farm makes a great one)
Do not put Baby tomato plant outside until it’s going to be at least 45 Degrees at night.
In the event of a cold snap/Frost, cover tomato with one of those flat sheets you get with bedding sets but nobody freaking uses. they’re mad good frost insulators.
Baby your tomato while it is young- fertilize before planting, keep up on the water, give it shade if it starts to get crispy, play it mozart or whatever- right until it develops it’s first flowers. Once the Tomato flowers, neglect and abuse it to the point of injury but not past the point of death. A tomato is a remarkably sapient plant, and it needs the Fear Of It’s Own Demise in order to get adequately horny and flower enough to set fruit properly. Miss a few waterings. Let it get sunburnt once. Break off a few leaves on branches that aren’t flowering. Once the tomato is getting abused to the degree it likes, it will start setting TONS of flowers and shift it’s energy focus from growing plant to making fruit. Yes, Proper Tomato Husbandry involves a certain degree of Sexual Sadomasochism. Don’t worry, the Tomato likes it.
ADVANCED TOMATO HUSBANDRY:
Get your Tomato some friends- Carrots! Turns out, Planting Tomatoes and Carrots in the same bed/large Bin is great for both plants- Tomatoes benefit from the soil areation and microrhyzal fungi that carrots provide, and carrots get free pest control from the Tomato’s constant chemical warfare.
Yes, tomatoes constantly commit chemical warfare- they excrete toxins to keep off pests (they’re related to deadly nightshade, which is deadly specificially to avoid being eaten by insects and mammals), exude pheromones to attract pollinators, and unleash all kinds of weird shit kill rival plants like weeds or Other Tomatoes. This is why Tomato plants have such a distinctive musk and why so many people get rashes from handling the plants.
Speaking of, the only thing better for a Tomato than Carrot Friends is A Rival Tomato, because seething hatred is an important part of Balanced Tomato Psychology. Get a second Tomato and put it within 6 feet of the first and the two of them will VIOLENTLY attempt to out-reproduce the other, while also pollinating each other in a sort of horticultural kismesitude.
You can get even greater rivalry effects by having more tomatoes but: -the effect maxes out at about 5 plants per 100 sq ft, and if you have too many in small area they will for-reall kill each other before they can fruit. -If you do it right, you will have literally dozens of pounds of tomatoes on your hands come august so you better have a plan for that.
The carrots also love when there is a Rival Tomato, esp if all three are in the same bed becuase the carrots are also Proactive Thinkers and tattle to the tomatoes to make them put out even more rival-and-weed killing chemicals, which help protect the carrots and make them grow more vigorously.
if you’ve got deer and rabbits in the area, put a border of Marigolds around the edge of your bed/growing area to discourage them. If your fruits are still going missing you have either squirrels or kleptomanical neighbors. Both pests can be solved by blasting them with the hose.
I am making plans w my roommate and partner for our yellow house we are gonna rent.
