Wanted a post regarding my views of JK Rowling and that controversy (so I don't have to later):

I am very aware she is problematic. Me and my partner do not fit gender norms. I, Quill, share this account with my partner, Indigo (not real names). I am non-binary masc leaning (so I prefer they/them, but am okay with he/him). Indigo is something they have not defined themselves, but they go by they/he/xe. We try and surround ourselves with people who do not fit the norm. Our friend Yellow, who loves supplying me with new ideas, is a trans woman.

Me and everyone around me does research into what does and does not fund or support JKR. The Harry Potter books I have are old and/or thrifted. We've gone to Universal a few times and only once actually bought things from the Harry Potter area (which was back when we were in high school, and technically my parents bought for us). When the new series comes out, we will not watch it (in any way that gives her money, at least).

The reason we write about Harry Potter is not to try and support JKR. It is simply a series we enjoy and will continue to enjoy due to the large community (that of which mostly does not support JKR). Saying that me simply writing fanfiction will make the series more popular is untrue. The most viewed fanfiction on Ao3 has 20 million views and is a Harry Potter Wolfstar fanfiction.

My reason for writing my new story is attempting to rewrite the series without the racist, transphobic, antisemitic, homophobic views, along with fixing plot holes and spells or objects that simply don't make sense.

The reason most people hold onto Harry Potter is not because of how fleshed out and we'll it's written. It's because people have gotten friends and a community through Harry Potter. Yes, there are people in the community who hold on simply to support JKR in committing hate crimes and transphobia, but that is not everyone.

We all should continue to spread awareness about what will and will not give JKR money so people with common sense know to avoid those things so JKR can't harm people with the money gotten from us.

Just a few important and gentle reminders:

If you claim you support human rights - not just trans rights but human rights in general - yet still plan to watch this show, unfollow me. You’re a fucking hypocrite and I don’t want you following me.

Do not watch it even if you’re hate watching it, it still contributes to streaming revenue and views!

The adults in this reboot of the franchise are FULLY accountable for choosing to do this show and accepting a pay cheque over supporting a minority group. Even if they claim they support trans rights, they’re cowards and don’t actually support them at all.

The kids do NOT deserve abuse or hate, whether it’s because you’re comparing them to Dan/Rupert/Emma or because you’re boycotting due to the author’s views. They are literal CHILDREN.

Your nostalgia over a children’s series about kids going to school is NOT more important than trans people being respected and having rights. As long as JKR is still alive, she profits off of this.

when she was confronted about it, she didn’t apologise or take it down, instead she said,

“well, if he didn’t want me to take pictures, he shouldn’t be wearing a skirt and fishnets.”

Wattpad wouldn’t survive the canonical porn without plot tag on AO3 😭 But in all seriousness this isn’t new. Wattpad has always been very pro censorship and a lot of authors have had their works removed with no warning before, so this looks to me like same old rules just even more strict than before? And don’t get me started on the ads that have been flooding the site for years, unless you subscribe to an ad-free Wattpad premium where you won’t get ads as long as you pay, but your works will still get removed if it’s too spicy or taboo and someone reports it. This is why we love AO3

She fully didn't watch the segment because Jon did a very nuanced, thoughtful segment. He drilled down to kids just wanting to have a community and have fun.

What these TERFS are pissed off about is that he showed how disingenuous y'all are when you go "omg that trans athlete hit a ball really hard and it hurt a cis women" because when you look into it cis women even on their team hit harder then them. Because he pointed out that cis girls harm each other in sports all the damn time. He pointed out that when there was a bill to protect cis women athletes against sexual predators like coaches. Y'all decided not to pass that while passing an anti-trans bills all while claiming you just care about protecting women.
