Afropunk London

Originally held in New York (Brooklyn) Afropunk is a festival celebrating black sub-culture, it has built up to become a full-blown movement through music, fashion and the arts, it has been able to spread to the likes of Paris, Atlanta and now London (Alexandra Palace) for the first time. London finally had a chance to represent to the fullest - and London did! Grace Jones as the headliner provided a phenomenal crescendo to the festival as a whole, we hope London gets another chance to celebrate diversity like this again.

Afropunk x Dr. Martens

To initiate the start of the weekend Quirksville was there for the talented artist Kay Davis customising Dr. Martens in her super cute way, female collective Born N’ Bread playing music from A$AP Ferg to Zhané and then to keep the vibes going Mikel Ameen and Melo Renn’s positive energised induced conscious rap, all ahead of Afropunk London.

We’re looking forward to being there and we hope to see you there too.

Sunfall-In-Love

In preparation for Outlook Festival we were at Sunfall - Brockwell Park for some fun, (wooh! Still recovering)... We head-nodded, we dabbed, we grooved and we bounced to nothing but amazing sounds!

Reflecting the many sounds of London and beyond, Sunfall’s music policy will span jazz, electronica, house, hip hop, dubstep, techno, soul, drum & bass and disco.

Outlook Festival presents: Mad Professor

It was a pleasure to see and hear one of dub music’s leading contemporary producers Mad Professor at The Jazz Cafe for a very special live set. His pioneering take on production brought dub into a whole new realm, transforming it from its root origin into a futuristic sound that has influenced musicians ever since.

We are very excited to be doing a special collaboration with Outlook Festival this year! 

Outlook Festival will take place from Thursday 1st September – Sunday 4th September. Live performances this year from the likes of Andy C, Stormzy, Joey Bada$$, Noisia, Kano and more.

The Opening Concert will take place on Wednesday 31st August. Performing live: Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Slum Village and ASM.

Noma Bar At Typo Circle

As part of the Typo Circle events, renowned illustrator and designer Noma Bar is doing a talk about his work at London based advertising agency JWT on 27 November. With his distinctive minimalist style and strong bold colours, some of his clients have included, Apple, The New York Times, Esquire, IBM and Wallpaper Magazine. Where Are They Now? 

A hilarious and slightly melancholy short film, produced and animated by Steve Cutts examines the lives of famous cartoon characters beyond their prime and the way they have settled into everyday life after their showbiz careers have ended. Narrated by Jessica Rabbit there are cameos from some of our favourite childhood villains from Skeletor to Mumm-Ra.

Apple aired a new commercial for its MacBook Air line called “Stickers.” featuring the Air being customised with various decals. The ad also features music "Chimes" by Producer/DJ Hudson Mohawke.

IKEA PS Instagram Website

Using the basic features of Instagram, IKEA the large Swedish furniture brand and its Russian creative agency, have produced a collection website within the app echoing their main concept of 'Always On The Move'. Its a great way of building an in-app experience on a limited budget, catered to smartphone users to showcase their 34 piece collection. You can check out IKEA Russia's Instagram here.

So, one of the Quirksville captains Justina (aka Just) took part in what was an extremely messy job last week, what could only be described as a bloodbath – (not real blood, but very close to looking like it) she had loads of fun and got stuck in! Having a guts throwing fight in an abandoned swimming pool is now our new achieved merit badge.
