I know it shouldn’t shock me that fandom is like this, but I still can’t wrap my head around Davrin hate.

He was delightful and hot and sexy and cute with Assan and one of my favorites hands down, and I feel like this is Wyll from BG3 all over again. It makes me so mad for my bois.

on the verge of passing out but the 'templars Can retire to val royeaux' does bounce around my head a lot. you could stay in your home country and have your loves ones watch your slow deterioration or you could slowly deteriorate in fucking orlais, but if this is an established setup within the system then presumably they have specific facilities and people and resources that specialize in caring for retired templars in their last years. and it's also very much presented as an honor and a reward. you know.

i thiiink this is the only actual mention we get of val royeaux as a place where templars can retire to? so the fact this very binary choice is mentioned in origins, with specifically fereldan templars, adds a whole other layer of implications... we would never say andrastianism is constrained by political borders, but the chantry as an institution is very much orlesian. :)

it’s fascinating that amaranthine commoners are still talking about fleeing ferelden bc of the darkspawn like i assume amaranthine is the worst place to be bc that’s why the commander of the grey is there but the whole thing really emphasises to me what we already know, that it wasn’t like a phantom menace style you blow up the hivemind and all the bad guys instantly fall over and die, the blight wasn’t really “over” for most people in ferelden until long after the archdemon was slain. and even after the darkspawn were cut down, and apparently they’re still rampant and threatening like this months later, there’s the issue of presumably how little food is actually being produced during a blight and civil war, and how blight infested and dead so much farming land must have been... this is why it was such a missed opportunity imo to have fereldan maps in dai and have zero lasting impact from the blight. compared to what the devastated fereldan countryside looked like in the da2 prologue (possibly some of that is varric artistic license but still. give me SOME quencies)

idk how to explain this properly but like. for me meredith works better as main villain than loghain not for how they are writen (cause indeed loghain has more content with the Power of being a companion) but for the themes in their stories. meredith is a templar with strong opinions about mages in a game thats full of strong opinions about mages and templars, companions npcs and missions included. You even got options to see who you support. Meanwhile loghain has the very very interesting conflict of orlais/ferelden wich is so cool but like. he is the only single character who cares about this. Like to a point that is ridiculous. He truly is like "am i going crazy im the only one who remembers the orlais ocupation??" and every single character just completelly ignores that topic. No one has opinions about it, not your companions, not the npcs, you can seen fereldan nobles marrying orlesians and no one comments on it. You know if that noble was dating a mage everyone would be like "omg the scandal!!!" but if it's an orlesian they just got an accent and not worth commenting. So it's like so fucking weird cause unless you read the book or recruit loghain you don't know how deep that shit goes. and then they never talk again about it in the next games except maybe a very misseable codex entry and like cmon this should be. A big main conflict. Like they talk about it a bit in dao but not as much as they should imo...

Sten's Nightmare is such a good segment. You get to see less stoic side of him especially with his comrades banter and the fact that he knows it's all fake and prefers to stay forever in the moment where everyone is still alive so he doesn't have to face reality where he's filled with regret is kinda heartbreaking. You have to convince him not to give up on his life. Also his "for once you're right" kind of response to Warden is such a good moment in their dynamic. Peak Dragon Age writing.

i doubt the writers necessarily thought this through but because it is a silly pet peeve of mine when mentioned in fandom as a plot hole: anders is right to say there is no known way of separating him from justice, and the warden being able to end connor’s possession in dao doesn’t change this. that method wouldn’t be possible with anders-justice because not all possessions are the same. the way connor’s possession works is that the demon is still in the fade, controlling him from there rather than truly entering the world and joining with him permanently, so you can go to the fade to kill it without any harm to connor. this gets explained by jowan/morrigan/whoever is explaining the possibilities.

Morrigan: “Killing the child is the quickest course, but to say there is nothing else possible would be a lie. We can confront the demon in the Fade, though not easily.”

Bann Teagan: “What do you mean? The demon is within Connor, is it not?”

Morrigan: “No, it lies in the Fade and controls the boy from there. We can follow that connection, however, and do battle with its true form.”

however, justice is within anders. he is not in the fade and hasn’t been since awakening, that’s his whole plot. so he has no hidden “true form” elsewhere, this is his one and only presence, and he could not be killed separately. ergo going to the fade to kill justice (who is not in the fade) is not a plan that makes any sense or has any relevance here. (even if anders were willing in the first place for justice to be killed to achieve their separation.)

the phylactery that gives you the arcane warrior spec is such a nothing encounter but it always rlly gets to me and i always get rlly upset over just the idea of not freeing it 😭 even though saying nah at the last moment is objectively funny. i think it’s just that i project my own claustrophobia too hard when there’s this kind of magically-trapped-forever fantasy character

i still haven’t recovered from finding out that the option for hawke to tell anders “if you had told me i would have understood” is only available for a hawke that has 75%+ friendship with anders. you have to have played a character who would say that. which to me implies that anders’ response to that, “i wanted to tell you,” is him telling the truth, since he would only say that to a hawke who. yeah. you get it
