It really gets to me that Abed accepting that Troy is never coming back is revealed in the same episode (series finale) where he finally leaves Greendale. Almost like he was waiting for Troy, but has finally admitted to himself that Troy is never coming back and there is no point waiting for him.

Something about Abed saying “it’s embarrassing” in Geothermal Escapism when he tells Troy he’s seeing real lava really gets to me. Because like, up to this point we have never once seen Abed be embarrassed or ashamed about who he is and how he interacts with the world around him. I’m sure he’s felt shame before, but we never see it because we only see him when he’s with the group, and they’re the people who accept him the most.

So when he admits to Troy that he’s embarrassed, it’s honestly jarring. Danny Pudi is so impressive for that scene because you can literally pinpoint the exact instant the whole facade disappears, and it’s just Abed. His first and only best friend and love of his life is leaving him and he can’t cope with it to the point that he’s seeing actual lava everywhere, and he’s embarrassed.

Idk this scene just really sticks out to me because it’s the most vulnerable we ever see Abed in the entire show. Most of the time we only ever see him as the magical elf-like man who uses movies and TV to connect to the world, and he is that. But he’s also a human being, and human beings can’t be magical and elf-like all the time. Some people perceive Abed as an emotionless robot, when in reality he has very strong emotions but is just very good at controling them. This is one of the few times where we see that control slip away.

abed and troy go to the movie theater and this is how i imagine it happens.

abed: is extremely well-prepared, has picked the best seats in the theater (second row from the back, middle seats), has transported his snacks into a portable container instead of a plastic bag so there's no annoying rustling noise, went to pee right before so he won't have to go during the movie, has drunk coffee and/or something else energizing so he will not get tired by any means, sits down in one position and does not move for the rest of the movie, barely blinks, gets frustrated when other people talk and calls them out for it.

troy: does none of those things, falls asleep three times, drops his popcorn on the floor, cries and laughs very loudly along with the movie which everyone can definitely hear.

also they hold hands. the end.

Fantastic show with a lot of behind the scenes drama. Show creator was booted for a season, one of the actors (CC) was super difficult to work with, and as self aware as it was it still stubbed its toe a whole lot on important issues.

It wasn’t the gayest show, tho, what are you talking about?

yeah for sure, it wasn't perfect and it's important to acknowledge where the media we consume falls flat. as for the other thing, i was referring to the massive amounts of unprotected gay sex the characters of troy and abed were having off-screen and occasionally on-screen as well. if you keep track throughout all six seasons they make out and have gay sex over 300 times, which is way more than we'd consider socially acceptable these days. this was actually a huge problem and as you know contributed to the show's double-cancellation

LATE late response but i did costuming...! although my usual forte is screenwriting, but this time around i was helping out my friend (who was the director)! and uhm to answer your quesion it is the awesomest thing in the world to be on a film set and i wish i was there every day
