my number one advice for parents is to listen to your children tbh. and i dont just mean listening to their problems i mean like. when your kid recites the plot of a movie youve already seen or your tells you about what they did at school today or wants to show you their roblox gameplay. youve gotta be invested in knowing your kid as a person or why are you even doing the whole parenting thing.

I remember a time at an airport where an older gentleman and his young daughter were sitting next to me while all the flights were delayed due to a storm. She was very sweet, and very curious; she looked over at my Nintendo and asked what game I was playing. I responded that I was playing Zelda. The father was a fan of the games too, asked which game I was playing, and we had a nice chat about them. When the daughter asked if she could play Zelda, he pulled up Minish Cap on her Switch Lite for her.

Later, still waiting on the storm to stop, she has moved on to watching videos on her dad's phone. She got really excited over watching a YouTuber and turned to her dad to tell him all about how cool VTubers are and how much she loved the avatars they used. That was the MOST invested I've ever seen a parent in something that they might not have understood, but still paid attention to because of who was saying it. As I mentioned before, he was older, and did not seem to know much about YouTubers as a whole, but he asked the most genuine questions I've ever heard. When she eventually declared that she wanted to be one, but didn't know how to make the avatar, he responded simply, "Right now is a good time to learn how to do it. Let's look up a video to learn how."

And, just. A+ to that dad- absolutely wonderful to watch someone properly love their kid in a little way. Before the weather cleared, I went to the airport store and bought some Skittles for the kid, as a little way to repay the joy and hope for humanity that her and her awesome dad gave me.
