benedict's kindness being the thing that makes sophie fall harder!!!!

but also, benedict's kindness is 100% the best thing about him. he listens with a smile not to make fun of her while posy is telling him her objectively hilarious story, but because he likes people who are genuine and honest and full of what makes them passionate and imaginative, and posy is all of those things. but then araminta puts her daughter down in public, and benedict immediately interrupts to protect her feelings. this is what sophie witnesses, and it doesn't matter that posy is her favorite of the family and the kindest to her as well--because benedict couldn't know this and sophie knows that. it's that benedict is kind to everyone, and that's a kind of innocence that sophie once had herself but no longer, and I think she really mourns this.
