Six Sentence Sunday

Good morning! I’m back again! Already, I know!

I’ve been working on my CORB, and if you’re thinking to yourself, I didn’t think CORB was happening right now…you would be right! I’m so, so late, but that’s pretty standard for me irl so I’m not going to let that stop me.

I'm a little more than halfway through a rough first draft and my plan is to have it entirely written before I start posting. I'm really trying to push through the rough draft, so there is a lot of placeholder dialogue and "[MAKE BETTER JOKE HERE]" and "[SPELL]" happening. Guys, the first draft doesn't have to be good, it's just gotta get writ. It doesn't always flow the way I'd like, but it's moving along, and that's enough for me for a first draft. It's going to be so, so romcom. Pray I can pull this off!

Surely you told them about your kiwi allergy, Basil?” Daphne says, panicked. “It’s not kiwi,” I groan. “I’m fine, mum.” “Then what is it?” Mordelia smirks. “I have an incurable case of mind your own business. I hope it’s contagious.” Sophie and Petra giggle but Daphne still looks worried.

📻 Last Song: The last song I listened to was something my son was playing in the car that I wasn’t familiar with (he’s an excellent DJ, with a broad range - he always gets the aux). However, the song that’s been stuck in my head all week is Wait by the River by Lord Huron.

📺 Currently Watching: I started a free AMC trial, and started watching Interview with the Vampire. I don’t actually watch a whole lot of anything (I prefer reading), so I doubt I’ll finish it before my trial is up, but.. we’ll see.

📖 Currently Reading: Network Effect by Martha Wells (one of the Murderbot Diaries books). Also! The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish finally came off hold at the library… but it’s volume 2, so I checked it out and am hoping against all hope that volume 1 comes up (I’m first in line!!) before I have to return it. For fic, I am currently reading a fan re-write of the Captive Prince trilogy from Laurent’s POV. It’s so well done, and so so heartbreaking.

😍 Current Obsession: Witch Hat Atelier, probably. I watched the anime, and then bought all the ebooks (for the main story, though the Kitchen ones are awfully tempting), then found out that there were a bunch more chapters published online and, of course, bought all the chapters that are released so far. It’s such a good story, and the art is stunning.

📌 Currently Working On: Umm… I don’t think I have any projects right now. I have a lot of home projects I want to do, but don’t have the money/energy/skill, probably. Such is life.

👔 Currently wearing: an old t-shirt and pickle boxers (my pajamas).

🔍 Last Google Search: I searched for Evelyn from The Mummy (1999), because I was trying to recall a certain outfit… 10/10 was not disappointed in any of her outfits.

Six Sentence Sunday

You won't believe it, but in the year of our common era 2026, I have opened not one, not two, but three fics that have never before been published. Have I done substantive work on them besides opening the file and then closing it again? Maybe! Maybe not! Don't worry your pretty little head about that! Progress, not perfection.

Also no! It's not Sunday! I'm not a perfectionist okay! I'm getting the party started early!

Below the cut, tags and 3 snippets, one for each fic, because I'm feeling luxurious.

FIC 1, which I'm calling Simon Out Loud (this is the rewriting the "not a date" scene from canon where Simon watches Baz read books he stole from the library. It's not very original, which I think is kind of the fun of it--more of a revision of a couple scenes from canon. Is this still worth publishing/reading? You tell me.) (no really please tell me):

The first few places we checked in Covent Garden looked promising, by which I mean full of dead-eyed people who seemed too interested in looking Baz up and down, but I think they were just Normal clubs.  At one of them, with rainbow flags lining the wall, we actually got swept up on the dance floor before we could make sure it wasn’t the right place. Vampires can be gay too, you know.  I thought I was going to lose Baz in the crowd, so I grabbed his hand again and he must have felt the same way because he didn’t shake me off.

FIC 2, which I'm calling Three Scoops (you should never take me seriously, you must know this by now):

Suddenly, Simon’s whole demeanor changes. Normally, he’s very Golden Retriever. I mean literally–he’s all big eyes and golden and curly-headed. Maybe more like a golden doodle. (I love dogs!) But right now he’s more like one of those pointing dogs that’s spotted a duck or something. Ramrod straight and at attention. It’s at odds with his surfer-dude vibes—I think he literally surfs in his free time, based on some comments he made and his muscles and the freckles. I had been about to ask him if he was dating anyone, and then work my way around to if his friend Penny was dating anyone—she was in the shop when I interviewed and in that five minutes I learned she’s super smart and a little terrifying and also completely adorable. (I don’t think I should tell her that last one.) (Yet.)  But now Simon’s on alert and definitely not paying enough attention for me to be able to dig for answers. “What is it?” I say.  “Customers,” he says grimly.

FIC 3, and let's just call this one MBFMW:

"Um, hello?" he says to me. “Blue,” I say dreamily. “Blue?” he asks, confused. I clear my throat. “I mean, do you need help?” He smiles at me and goddammit, he’s got a dimple. I definitely must have cast a spell. Or someone did. “Probably,” he says, smiling at me on the floor. “But I feel like I should be asking you that.”

Hello lovelies 💚 I hope you're having a stellar July so far (I am...not...but that's alright. Nevertheless we persist and all that yadda yadda etc etc.)

Surprisingly, I have a fic nearly ready to go! It's my Watford-era amnesia fic that I may have mentioned a while ago. (I actually can't remember, how appropriate.)

Here are six+ spoiler free sentences for you, from Simon's POV:

"Penny, we've been at this for literal hours," I remind her. "And yet I notice you've yet to accomplish anything." Baz's drawling voice carries through the wood behind us. I reach for my sword and nearly jab myself in the side with my wand. I don't have a good place to keep my wand. (I don't have a holster like Baz.) I brandish it in front of me like it's a weapon, instead of a glorified twig. It feels too small.

Here's the spoiler that the Ao3 tags will spoil for you anyways: this is a fake amnesia fic. How does that work? Simon would also like to know, but the Mage has banned the internet at Watford so he just believes Baz when Baz says he's lost his memory.

Anyways, I still need to double check all my commas and come up with a title but hopefully that will be up by Friday!

Simon desperately wants to fix the mistake he made when he gave his magic to the Mage, hoping that the transfer would kill the Humdrum once and for good. And it did, at the cost of expelling all magic from the World of Mages. 

The sudden lack of magic loosened the Mage’s grip on power. With Simon’s help, the Mage devised a plan to try and bring magic back, but, three years later, nothing they’ve done has worked. Instead, the Mage is using Simon to help strengthen his political position by making him sleep with influential mages, both as reward and blackmail. 

It's an exhausting existence, especially since, other than the Mage and his men, the only people who know what Simon’s become are those who share his bed. He doesn’t want to be this person, but he also doesn’t know where else to go, and who might be forced to take his place if he were to escape.

Then, Baz breaks into Simon’s hotel room.
