Day 13 - Maltese
I'm taking requests for these on patreon! You can leave your suggestion here if you're a member ♥
i know things are hella grim in the nsfw/kink art circles especially in the last year --
but I'm hearing there's a NSFW-friendly ko-fi alternative built on atproto that's actively in the works, and being vetted by lawyers right now. as torrent-princess (OP) says, you should be able to swap out payment processors while keeping your account intact. this matters since even if stripe removes support, you'll still have a shop and all of your links intact. (ATproto is an infrastructure that bsky is built on, but is far bigger than bsky with far more opportunities.)
additionally, the Free Speech Coalition is working on a credit union specifically for adult work (including kink art) - here's the link so you can add your interest & support. Since this will be built by sex workers, there'll be far less risk of being debanked for spurious and puritanical reasons.
on a domain TLD level, there's an initiative here for a .furry domain built from the ground up by seasoned furries; it's unclear whether they'll support NSFW, but it's yet another promising turn of events for a group that's been similarly affected by censorship.
there are friends and allies out there helping to build a working parallel infrastructure. keep being vocal, keep supporting these initiatives when it's possible, and keep supporting your nsfw/kink artists. ♥
shoutout to slow growers, late bloomers, people whose plans got derailed by circumstances beyond their control or their own choices, people who never had a plan to begin with, people who have had to start over when theyre too old to feel like theyre supposed to be where they are, people who cant pretend theyre built for the environment theyre in, and everyone who's not living the life they thought they would. im proud of you for making it this far and i hope you keep going until youre happy ♡
unfortunately i can never hate on a "power of friendship" narrative no matter how corny because the thing is it's literally real
Here He is!!!!!!! My Beautiful baby!!!!
Again, as I mentioned last night, I have been working on this for probably like 2 years at this point, and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I hope you like Him :)

As of TODAY Twitch has quietly added the Generative Ai Training model into your account without your permission.
For the time being it is TOGGLEABLE and you can TURN IT OFF!
However, we do not know if Twitch will force this to be on at all times like some other platforms, like X/Twitter, have previously done.
Regardless of IF YOU STREAM OR NOT you should TURN THIS "TRAINING FOR GENERATIVE AI" SETTING OFF IMMEDIATELY!
To do so you must go to: https://www.twitch.tv/settings/security
And then scroll all the way down near the bottom.
There you'll find the "Training for Generative Ai" setting, toggle it to OFF!
Be sure to keep sending messages to Twitch that you do NOT want this to exist.
And another reminder that if you do stream on Twitch, like I do, you should start preparing you and your audiences to migrate elsewhere ASAP.
As the person who got their R keyboard broken and the world mocked me for being forced to use the uwu language as replacement
My condolences

I haven’t seen this in years and yet it is burned into my memory forever.
This is on the short list of Eternal Reblog because it’s fucking legendary.
so, i'm aware of the situation involving Natsume, marvelous, the business mergers, etc. but i'm not super informed on what's so bad about natsume's advertising. that being said, what's so bad about the interviews in the anniversary book? if you could fill me in on why Natsume is so bad or just point me in the right direction where i can find info on that, i would really appreciate it as well!
(also to be clear—i haven't bought any of Natsume's so called Harvest Moon games after the split because i've heard they... aren't very good. i've only ever played the Story of Seasons games and the older Harvest Moon games before they became separate franchises.)
also based on some of your posts—i really hope your housing situation improves soon! it's rough out there :/
Hey! Thanks for the message. Long post to compliment your ask!
So let's start with the advertising.
Natsume's advertising practices fall in a legal gray area, skewed heavily towards fraudulent and anti-consumer. They retained the rights to the name "Harvest Moon", which has been an established trademark for 30 years. You know this, I know this, we all know this.
The problem however, is that they as a company were not developers for the entire 30 year duration. They do not own the rights to 牧場物語. They do not own the rights to Innocent Life, or Rune Factory for that matter either. They never have.
While they had a contract with Victor which was then grandfathered into Marvelous, the California-based Natsume Inc.'s role was only to serve as the publisher for the Bokujou Monogatari series as well as some of the other Victor IPs. As a publisher, their services included: overseas marketing and publications, overseas market trend analysis, localization and localization QA, general QA, and player sentiment feedback and consultation.
They did not start "making" their own titles and acting outside the scope of a publishing and consultation firm until after their publishing agreement was dissolved.
Often, I hear it said that they created the puzzle game spinoffs, "Puzzle de Harvest Moon" and "Harvest Moon: Frantic Farming". This isn't entirely true. They conceptualized* a spin-off idea, pitched the idea to Marvelous, and gained their permission for official licensing of Bokumono characters and assets (provided by Igusa Matsuyama). The actual game building and development was handled by a studio called Platinum Egg.
*Conceptualized is a word I use as loosely as possible, with all the sarcasm I can ooze from my mouth. Frantic Farming is wholesale Panel de Pon! but with a Bokumono coat of paint. Natsume was set to publish it in Japan, but the release got cancelled despite having the game ready to play. Maybe it had something to do with the fact the name was straight up ぼくものキャラクターズ 野菜でポン! (Bokumono Characters Yasai de Pon!) which bears the "de Pon!" from Panel de Pon! without having gained title licensing permission from IntSys or Nintendo, a move that would have attracted the attention of the established Panel de Pon fanbase? 🤔 Hmm. Surely not...
The first game that Natsume ever "made" under the name "Harvest Moon" began production immediately in 2011, once the merger for Marvelous was set in motion, and released in 2014. But again, this was not an in-house production. They outsourced development and asset creation to a Japanese studio called "Talbot inc." (which I think has been renamed to Appci in recent years...) You see, Natsume inc. is very good at slapping their logo on something, pointing at it, and patting themselves on the back.
In addition to the above, years of precedent from gaming journalism inappropriately saying variations of "Natsume's long line of farming games" or shortened to "Natsume's classic Harvest Moon series" has done a major disservice to the series' perception in the west and is a huge factor in how Natsume continues to coattail the success of 牧場物語, hereby named Story of Seasons overseas.
But yep, that's not all. The last major decade milestone produced one of the most purposely deceptive graphics and marketing campaigns.
(ahem)
You're reading that right, folks! The next game in the series after 牧場物語はじまりの大地 (Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, 2012) is NOT 牧場物語つながる新天地 (Story of Seasons, 3DS 2014); it is in fact Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley (2014, but only in English because we aren't allowed to sell this game in Japan!) Totally real! It's the series you've always known! Story of Seasons? Clearly a ripoff out of nowhere, trying to impede on our lineage. Pay them no mind! Just keep handing us money! You don't think we would, hah, actually lie to you or anything, right?
Finding these was a nightmare, because as you may have guessed, Natsume was very tightly controlling of the media release on their "20th anniversary" title. Of all the E3 2017 booths, Natsume's was part of the 1% who heavily restricted sharing anything out that wasn't specifically hand-picked to media and game journalists. I wonder why.....?
It isn't difficult to look at any of this and see how they intentionally draw people in on the name...but I think what really pulls the acid into my mouth is how they use Igusa's artwork just enough - via signage and backdrops, and the Classic Bubble Cow - mixed in with their own merchandise to completely blur the line. Yuck.
Hey, congratulations! You made it through all of that!
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
Let's talk about those interviews in the Harvest Moon 20th Anniversary book, shall we?
Ignoring the segments from two out of three of the original developers - Tomomi Yamatate and Setsuko Miyakoshi specifically, take a look at the rest of those interviewed.
Seiichi Kizu - He was the director of operations for Pack-in-Soft under Pack-in-Video and executive producer of the Nushi Tsuri (River King) series. After the merger of Victor into Marvelous, he retired quietly and hasn't been in games seriously since 2003 (barring a reprised supervisor and consultant role in 2008). He was not involved in Natsume operations, and only worked directly with the original team to support production efforts. So basically, another credibility prop.
Taka Maekawa - This is Natsume inc.'s CEO. He's the suited guy in the pictures above surrounded by signage and plushies. Yeah.
Get a load of this guy.
Q: The premise for Light of Hope differs substantially from other entries in the series. What inspired the shift to beginning with a character washing up on a storm-ravaged island?
A: "Since this project started as the title to celebrate twenty years of Harvest Moon, going back to the roots (the very first SNES version) was the basic idea I had in my mind. Also, at the same time, I wanted to include something different, which became the idea of rebuilding the island."
Alright, so here we have a few issues already:
- Conflating the "SNES version", which is 牧場物語SFC, as their own IP. Those roots aren't yours to recall.
- The premise of Light of Hope has the player wash up on an island after a storm, repair the colored light houses, and bring the goddess back with the light. There's building the community from zero too...
That sounds a lot like Island of Happiness (牧場物語キミと育つ島) and Tree of Tranquility (牧場物語やすらぎの樹) there, buddy. Oh and Light of Hope has a witch and wizard! So tie in Animal Parade 牧場物語わくわくアニマルマーチ) here too, I guess? Gee, almost seems like we're not really reflecting on the original game and more like we're targeting people who really liked the Bokumono 10th anniversary era ...
The rest of his segment doubles down on the whole "return to our roots in the SNES" version while deliberately sidestepping further inquiry of the series legacy by diving into more generic questions about Light of Hope itself. The only ties to the "legacy" are the segments by actual original staff from the Bokujou Monogatari series they used as props. And I will keep calling them props because that's exactly what they became here.
If that wasn't frustrating enough, it's pretty damning that they never brought in Yasuhiro Wada, the creator and leader of the original trio of developers, for a nice sit-down and chat to discuss the series anniversary. You can't simply say "oh he isn't involved with the series anymore" because why on earth would Seiichi Kizu be there then?! Or Yamatate? Miyakoshi?? Sure, "He was unavailable" is plausible, but that's generally pretty weak and often a cop out. There's more holes here than Swiss cheese, and the whole thing smells like a can of anchovies.
I am always more than happy to talk about how Natsume commits to rug-pulling the public by using deceptive practices. I think I've summed up what you asked of me though!
we owe literally no one more on this planet than the woman behind fantasy name generator
her name is emily and and she runs it all by herself
everyone say thanks emily!!!
THANK YOU EMILY!
Thank you to Emily at Fantasy Names Generator, for providing all the fantastical names I could ever need for anything!! :D
friend of mine recommended a video essay that's like 5 hours long about why it's currently a whole Thing for fascists to claim they only eat meat and demonize vegetables etc etc, and it's genuinely quite well researched in many places and contains some fascinating history and has made me feel very weird about my status as an adult who enjoys drinking milk. but I've not finished it and I genuinely don't know if I will because at one point the ol' "you can't say you care about animals and also eat animals" chestnut got dropped by the white vegan essayist and it put such a bad taste in my mouth that I had to leave instantly
like idk man it just feels genuinely parodic to dedicate hours to analyzing how foodways have frequently been used as white supremacist propaganda and then casually toss out an argument that pretty invariably demonizes indigenous hunting practices with 0 regard for traditional knowledge and land stewardship guiding those practices
Every time I hear a white vegan say that I want to throw the rubble of the Klamath Dams at them.
The largest dam removal in U.S. history. So successful that the salmon that haven’t run freely in the river for literally over a century came back the next year. Not steady progress over a decade as expected, the very next salmon run they came home. No one alive saw salmon in that river outside the hatcheries kept by native’s tribes and the Department of Fish And Wildlife scientists desperately trying to save them. One of the activists who helped bring the suit spoke of their dying grandmother making them promise to bring the fish home, and they didn’t know how that was possible, but they spent decades doing it.
The legal basis for successfully suing the power company who owned the dams was Indigenous treaty rights to eat the fish. Eating the fish was the one thing in a century that succeeded in being a clear and legally binding right that superseded the desires of white capital and industry. I have been going to the public interest environmental law conference off and on for 20 years where a lot of organizing for Undam The Klamath happened. I’ve heard updates about every legal tact they tried as they happened, and they tried everything.
There are healthy, thriving salmon, trout, and lamprey in a rewilding and recovering Klamath River right now as a direct result of Indigenous people eating them. Of their legally binding right to eat them. They sure as fuck care more about those fish than any white vegan ever could. They are salmon people that the Creator sent Salmon to feed, while charging the People with protecting and stewarding them. It’s not possible to learn about salmon and trout in the Pacific Northwest without learning this, and it’s unambiguously racist to dismiss this symbiotic relationship.
The white vegans are trying to get all hunting and fishing banned in Oregon, and that’s quite possibly the single most catastrophic thing that could be done to the animals here because we killed off all the major predators of creatures like deer and without anything hunting them their numbers will explode, eat all the vegetation, destroy the ecosystem, and then die along with everything else in that failing ecosystem. Controlled hunting of deer is vitally necessary for the deer to survive. This is something Native people know, but patronizing racist savior-complex white people refuse to listen to.
I have a whole collection of Oregon’s Public Broadcasting’s documentaries about Klamath River or the larger story of fish and people in the region. If you watch nothing else, watch Klamath Dams Are Coming Out, First Salmon Ceremony, After The Dams, and First Decent (Native made). It could not be clearer that the salmon are being protected and nourished by the people who eat them, and that stewardship is a massive part of their creation myths. But it contradicts political vegan dogma so they don’t listen.
The Klamath River Runs Free
#also do you have any idea how much conservation is funded by people who want to eat those animals#at least in the us anytime someone buys ammo or hunting equipment or hunting licenses that money goes directly to state wildlife agencies
t his is what most people want queer/trans rep to be
this is drawn out of hatred because of a bad video I saw I'm sorry.
