Yknow, now that I think about it, Flowery and Gatsby are pretty similar. They both:

- Try to create an ideal world for someone, only for said person to ultimately reject it in the end.

- Put on an act that’s bigger than themselves to appeal to someone (Flowery acting like he’s asgores collage buddy, and faking having maximum stats, and Gatsby becoming Gatsby rather than James Gatz and throwing lavish parties to show how successful he is)

- Oldbuddy/Old Sport

- Push their act too far and end up getting openly rejected by the person they’re trying to win back.

- Know the protagonist of their respective stories from prior experience. (Kris from their childhood, and Nick from the war)

- Dedicate their entire lives to the love of one person.

- Die at the end of their respective stories

There might be other stuff I missed but low-key I wouldn’t be surprised if Toby took inspiration from Gatsby when writing Flowery’s character
