Thinking about how most of Susies jokes revolve around her eating something or getting things for free. Free Salsa Stump, banned from Free Ham Sandwich Day, Pinecones and Dirt in her fridge, decimating the snack tray lawnmower style, Free juice at church, knows how to make lemonade and such from free condiments. Eating the moss, eating a rosebud, eating spilled candy from the ground.
And then theres all the times that shes is shown love in the form of sharing meals or cooking. her loving toriels pancakes and ralseis dark cakes. Getting to cook with them for the physical challenge. The tea party with Gerson and Flowery giving her orange juice, Tenna giving her yogurt. Learning how to make a pie from Toriel.
And at the begining she didnt really know how to show kindness to others, and how throughout the game she develops by sharing the dark candy with Lancer, all the way to asking Ralsei to eat the yummy cake he made for them with eachother, to sharing Ice Cream with Noelle at the Festival.
Its so tragic and sad how her living in poverty manifests as food scarcity all through her characterization. But it is also so sweet and charming how it changes and develops as Susie learns how to love and let herself BE loved by others. And the first thing we ever see her do in Deltarune is eat chalk!! Shatter my heart Toby Fox π Susie Deltarune you will always be Best Girl
was talking to a coworker and realised i could not for the life of me remember his name but i was too embarrassed to ask because we've spoken multiple times so mid-conversation i started concocting a plan to nudge the conversation towards the ID photos on our building passes so that i could be like oh my ID photo is awful haha the camera they use to take these has a real talent for making me look as unphotogenic as possible and then he would say oh yes me too haha everyone says that (because they do) and then i would be able to say well let me see yours it can't be as bad as mine! and he would show me his ID because we are coworkers and why wouldn't he and this would allow me to see his building pass which of course would have his name on it and then i would be able to say well yours is perfectly nice it must be me that's the problem! and then we would have a polite chuckle about it and i would have his name without needing to ask for it and he would be none the wiser and all would be well but then before i could execute this fine plan a little voice in my head went "so this is some light yagami bull shit you are about to pull" which was such a violent reality check it shocked me completely out of my embarrassment and i went "hey im so sorry your name has slipped my mind could you remind me" and he did and it was fine.
"This is some Light Yagami bull shit you are about to pull" <- Littany against avoiding small embarrassing/awkward moments that don't matter with over the top ass mind games.
What if Iris only just recently transitioned, and the Perihelion is excited to inform everyone that as ships also go by she, and as it is also "transitioning" into a ship, it will also start using the pronoun.
No one is entirely sure if this is the Perihelion being supportive, a copycat thing, a machine learning thing, a younger sibling bid for attention, or what. But that's something for the university MI developers to worry about, bc socially speaking those are (mostly) all perfectly normal reasons for a person to begin exploring identity markers, and Iris and Peri are both having fun.
rip dr. mensah. imagine you're a middle aged woman who ends up taking in this person with no clear chronological age but the undeniable aura of a lost baby animal, and you don't really know what they get up to when they leave home for months at a time but they always come back and hey, this time they even brought someone home for you to meet!
but it's kind of a weird meeting because their partner did technically pull up and shove them into a white van while they were standing on the side of the street with your teenage daughter.
and then they took off from the cops with them both in the backseat.
and none of this is really their partner's fault because they were technically being held at gunpoint the entire time (the people responsible for that are buried in a ditch on the side of the interstate now for unrelated reasons).
and then all 3 of them roll up to your house with the van clearly having just gone through the car wash and had its interior cleaned, and it's as if they are trying to give you the impression that they Are Indeed A Normal Person For Your Lost Baby Animal To Be With and you know they most certainly are not but hey, you love your Lost Baby Animal and you are happy if they're happy. and the whole abduction of your loved ones isn't even the weirdest part because, I should also mention, their partner IS the van.
Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.
My one boring tip to anyone in their 20s is to resist the temptation to rot in your room every time you get a free moment. Dismiss any neuroses you have about going outside and "being perceived". Be a dictator about it, plan your hangouts like they are binding commitments. No excuses! Go to the bar with your friends. Be kinda hungover at work. Socializing is like exercise; even if you don't feel like you want to, you should still do it because it's good for you.
