@raisuke06
why is this post completely broken in every way imaginable
Broken notes… deactivated account… removed image….
Finally, we have them all.
In addition: OP’s name is just… gone. No “[insert username]-deactivated[insert a bunch of numbers]” as is the standard for deactivated blogs.
Just the world “deactivated.” Look upon their post, ye mighty, and despair.
It’ll be almost impossible to find this post unless it wanders across your dash.
so i was looking at ffxiv gearsets and i was for a moment transfixed by the fact that by default the site shows them all on male character models. every time i go to this site i have to click this little toggle to see what the gearsets look like on a female character. and it's so tiny. it's nothing. but it's another little example of that male-as-default that you just never stop noticing once you're attuned to it. idk i'm insane
i thought to myself "surely this male-as-default doesn't even reflect the reality of the playerbase" because, you know, nearly everyone i know plays a woman, and i went to check the demographics and
the "all characters" vs "endgame characters" gender gap is so fucking funny to me. fantasia advertisement real.
there's actually no fucking way 6 million people play this to be a male human. those must be bots or something, just picking all the default options to get through the menu faster
How it started...
How it's going.

Question: why do people insist on using last names in POV? I mean like if you’re writing from Character A’s perspective why are you calling them their last name?
It literally makes zero sense to me. It feels wildly unnatural. You don’t think of yourself by your last name.
No cause like this still has me thinking.
I understand when you use last names in a POV to refer to other characters. It adds so much detail to the story.
Shane using Rozanov? It adds distance. Him clinging to the name Rozanov with white knuckles because he just can’t admit his feelings. Hints of him nearly going Ilya? Yes. Good. Give me the food.
Tsuna using last names to demonstrate he holds his guardians at a distance, scared they’ll turn on him. Slowly beginning to use their first names. (Also as an aside he is Japanese so yeah that’s the norm and it would show the deepening bond if you did it like that)
Last names are ways to distance yourself from someone, to take a step back.
However it’s honestly bad writing to be writing from their POV but using their last names. It makes you feel distant from the characters, it adds this wall between you and them.
“Smith felt torn, unable to decide what to do.” Sounds impersonal as hell compared to, “Sabrina felt torn, unable to decide what to do.”
Genuinely yeah, it's impersonal and jarring. There's very few cases where it works and where it does it's the exception that proves the rule.
Places I've seen it work, POV of a character who is essentially being raised to be an extension of their family and they've internalised it and struggle to refer to themselves as an individual. Or on the other end, someone who has lost their family and clings to the name more as a symbol of their loss and regrets.
But those are specific cases with thought and meaning behind why they do it, not as a general thing.
Don’t mind me just thinking about the hole in the middle of the United States where Chipping sparrows refuse to fuck
So I had a look into it, and while I can't definitely say for certain that it's linked, that area is the site of the Dust Bowl in the 1930s, the level of soil erosion that led up to and was caused by the Dust Bowl will take many more decades to fully recover. And in modern times the area is mainly fielded with little in the way of tree cover.
Either or both or neither could be linked to this quirk of Chipping Sparrows. It's just a theory I think makes sense.
At first i was like: why the hell is this on tumblr?! And then it suddenly made sense...
This is incredible.
wash him he smely
here’s how the other Eeveelutions react to bathtime 🛁🫧
i'm about to have an aneurysm.
windows 11 language pack for korean doesn't work, and neither does anything i've tried on my linux rig.
everything i try to look up for troubleshooting for windows is like "oh sweetheart you just have to install the language pack :)" and everything i've looked up for troubleshooting for linux mint cinnamon is "yeah they did an update in like 2018-ish that fucked ONLY the korean key inputs and no other language still no fix"
update i keysmashed, accidentally restarted the lapop for a fifth time, and now the korean option transfers seamlessly from english to korean, we're good.
Never underestimate the power of percussive maintainance.
I fucked up

Astrology is very popular — both Gallup and YouGov report that about 25% of Americans believe that the position of the stars and planets can
Astrology doesn't seem to work.
Some highlights:
Astrologers helped design the study
No one did better than random chance, even though they only included people in the study who are experienced with astrology and stated that they expect themselves to do better than random chance
They gave every astrologer a set of 50 things about a person and 5 birth charts to choose from. They weren’t even coming up with the chart themselves!
After taking the test, most thought they nailed it. Zero out of 152 did better than 5 out of 12. None nailed it
Astrologers who rated themselves highly experienced (“world class experts”) did the same or worse as those who said they have limited experience. Both performed the same as random chance
This is hilarious
That's got to be the funniest graph ever published in a paper
@wheezecheese
This has gone beyond "I cannot explain this to my spouse" and is firmly in "Archaeologists of the future will decide this is the point at which a group of people diverged from mainstream humanity and developed a new, indecipherable form of communication."
