Welcome to Ranchclan, a slice-of-life art blog following my primary Clangen save. You can call me Luckyfoot or just Lucky, and I use they/them pronouns 🍀

Ranchclan takes place in North Central WA and part of the comic involves sharing a little bit about the ecology of the location! It’s also a vaguely post-apocalyptic world, but that was long before any cat alive can remember. I take a lot of inspiration from @/bonefall, @/rippleclan, @/fallenclan, @/clangenrising, @/direclan and more - you’ll definitely see complex tool use, cooking, and maybe magic👀 in the future

Trigger Warnings:

The obvious TWs that come with canon-WC, animal injury/death (including kits), violence, blood, little bit of gore, murder, illness etc - Ranchclan may contend with drug use and drug abuse as we go on, including uses of catnip as a metaphor for cannabis, and cat psychedelics - but all of the above will be tagged with the appropriate cws per moon and drug use will have a cw posted the night before updates but that’s far far away in this comics timeline.

Can I make Ranchclan fan-content?

Absolutely! I don't own any of my particular worldbuilding concepts, and you're welcome to use ranchclan as inspiration for any of your personal work or for making fanart, fanfic, etc. Would love a tag or a ping so I can see! Please make Ranchclan OCs, but send me a message if you're planning any active Ranchclan crossover content for your own clangen-comics!

Can I use Valleyclan for fan-content?

Now here's the more complicated answer. Valleyclan is made by my spouse Minnow, who is Kalapuyan/Chinook/Con. Tribes of Grand Rhonde, and Valleyclan is heavily based on their culture, spirituality, and speak some Chinuk-Wawa. I'm not unaware of the implications of "indigenous-coded clan is actively combative with ranch/cowboy themed clan" but the reality is - that is what it's like living here for us. We are farmers living on a homestead with our animals, they grew up in the area that our clans are set in and part of it is also using Valleyclan as a vehicle of their indigenous cultural expression. Also Ranch and Valley are combative now but the goal is for tensions to ease.

So! Short answer, things like ash veiling are up for grabs, and neither of us own the concept of bone or feather jewelry, but as always with warrior cats and indigenous culture, do some extra research and you're always welcome to send an ask about it. Unless its a create-for-ranchclan event, please don't make Valleyclan specific OCs.

Why do you play with same-sex breeding on?

For hypokit reasons tbh. I justify it by saying that cats may or may not be trans in a way I the author don't know about, or had a surrogate/sire off screen. Otherwise it's ✨starclan magic✨

Nooo Flickercry's quails!!

Out of curiosity, what is the general opinion from the rest of the clan about the quails, and about them needing to be eaten now? How many did Flickercry have, and are there any left? :c

Flickercry does still eat birds, although she definitely does prefer other prey like small mammals instead. if you've ever seen baby quails irl they move like a pack of dust motes it's so funny

Wanderingclan can have upwards of 300+ cats at any given time! They're a suuupper large clan and have run out of prey partially due to their size, being held up for longer than they expected (original plan was Wanderingclan was supposed to arrive the most recent greenleaf), and the poor freezing weather reducing prey in the area.

Hi, do you plan to put the comic on comicfurry? I really want to read the comic but there is issues with the past/ next buttons and its making it hard to read. Some posts dont have the buttons, and some just dont work.

Ranchclan actually Already Is On Comicfury! This includes most of the bonusranches, in Mostly the order they appeared in or at least within the same time-frame. I also update less frequently on comicfury and more likely post multiple panels at a time once every couple months.

Please let me know if there's any specific pages that are missing links or where links are broken!

👯🧹🍀 For Foolfeather and Beetlebite!! Also Foolfeather autocorrects in my phone as Coolfeather

👯 Foolfeather has developed quite the circle of friends! He and all the clerics are close, especially him and Yarrowbloom, they play "Dungeonclan" with each other as little kitty dnd! Pigment has been quite the boon to their games, as he's had a lot of different experiences and seen a lot of terrain through his travels in Wanderingclan. After Slatecloud's long term injury, hes warmed up to Fool and they have weekly meals together.

👯Beetlebite has a smaller community of friends, she's gotten better since she was an apprentice but both she and Thymefrost can come off as cold or,, depressive? Spiderbark didn't give her a choice, that kit latched on to her and didn't let go - Beetle and Wheatburn are close just because of their respective inferiority complexes with their siblings. Bucket gets along with just about everyone, so even if Beetlebite considers her a close friend, to Bucket she's jsut another friendly ranchclan face.

🧹Fool really likes going herb gathering, although theres a significant amount of herbs grown in camp, he enjoys the opportunity to explore. Anything to do with food prep he hates - ranchclan doesnt cook their food yet but still removes intestines to reduce parasites and such. This is a task both warriors and clerics do - Flickercry is probably the most involved with food prep

🧹Beetlebite hates hunting purely because Thymefrost has always been a prodigy about it. It's not a chore that Needs done, but Beetlebite enjoys decorating nests and painting on boulders in the territory. It frustrates a good amount of other warriors, but everyone always appreciates coming home to a nest full of fresh feathers

🍀Fool doesn't have many secrets atm! He's got a pretty big crush on a clanmate, but he's not in a place to act on it.

🍀 Beetlebite wishes she could leave Ranchclan, but doesn't know where else she would go - she's talked to Parchmentpaw a little about Wanderingclan, but isn't interested in the travelling aspect. She doesn't like twolegs enough to be a kittypet, but knows she can't strike out on her own as a loner. Girlie just feels a little stuck and aimless, like everyone just wishes she could fuck off and do her own thing but feels trapped by her own perceived inadequacy

Unsure if this has been asked- but who's the biggest and smallest cat in the Clan?

a quick doodle of our guys! Sativa is aware of how big they are - but insist most of it is fluff. Frostbriar isn't significantly smaller than most cats, but is the smallest adult in ranchclan atm

Are wanderingclan nomads? That's such a cool take on a clan!

Yep! I currently have them travelling from south california up towards canada - but groups break off and travel all over the current continental turtle island/united states

Alright, we HAVE to know more about Parchmentpaw. How did they become deputy? Who in their right mind would allow this? Get that child a warm nest to sleep in and a filling meal! They shouldn't be ordering patrols and doing battle strategies!

If it helps, Parchmentpaw isn't the Only deputy of Wanderingclan! He's just the deputy/leader of this specific band - M.K, Hogbreath, Sandycreek, and Dragonflyhorse. They're a subset that travels ahead of the larger group, and Parchment themself is a pacifist!

Once the main bulk of Wanderingclan arrives, I plan on posting more info about their leadership structure and nomadic lifestyle - goal is an open source clan that people can include in any of their projects!

I just posted 91 today but ranch is actually drawn out to 95 atm! I plan on taking another small hiatus around June to work on my backlog and artfight refs again 🧡 maybe for comicfury at least I'll post a "nothing much happened this moon" panel just for continuity

Okay so I forgot moon 86

Make 86, magic it in place, and have everyone's ages be off by 1 until moon 100

Lol was no one going to tell me I accidentally skipped a moon! Anyways I could go back in, put 86 inbetween 85/87, and then have everyones ages be off slightly until I could fix them at next allegiances @ moon 100. bc I am being too lazy to go back in and fix everyone's numbers. OR you could be very very nice to me and we could all just pretend 86 exists and its the best panel anyone's ever seen but it and knowledge of it were wiped off existence from a malicious genie wish :3c
