Welcome to Wanderingclan!
Wanderingclan is a nomadic clan with several seasonal outposts, cyclically traveling from place to place. A clan of artisans, traders, and inventors, Wanderingclan prides itself on it’s diversity and community. With no formal leadership, this populous clan makes decisions as a collective.
I’m Luckyfoot, creator of @Ranchclan, and this is my background project I’ve been dabbling in. An open-source clan culture for anyone to use in conjunction with their other clans! Wanderingclan will expand on my other cat culture projects by introducing new technologies for them to use. Inspired heavily by projects like Bonefall/BetterBones, Rippleclan, Forestclan, and more, hopefully this will be a comprehensive guide for creating ocs for Wanderingclan and including them in your own worlds. (which if you havent checked out the previous clangens I HIGHLY suggest)

FAQ
So how exactly does this work? Wanderingclan is an open-source project designed to be a shared creative sandbox - think of it as a giant can where anyone can jump in and make their own ocs, bands, or stories without asking permission. Because the clan is intentionally huge and populous, every new cat or band you create is automatically considered “canon” to the broader Wanderingclan universe. You can draw comics using Wanderingclan as your setting, add Wanderingclan characters into your existing stories, or drop fun references and crossovers with other people’s OCs. That said, you’re never required to include everyone else’s characters in your personal version of the clan - your corner of Wanderingclan is yours to control. The only hard rule is: don’t kill off or permanently harm another creator’s character without their explicit permission. Other than that, roam free and have fun!
Can I have my sparklecats/startrekcats/thewoodscats/otherwise sci-fi/fantasy cats in Wanderingclan? Yes! Just like the above, your personal version of Wanderingclan is yours to do what you please with - no one else is required to include fantasycats in with theirs, so you're just as welcome to populate Wanderingclan with whatever type of cats you'd like.
As usual, no major April Fools pranks from me, but a fun crossover with another project I'm working on! I guess the accidental prank is skipping moon 86! A new moon will be drawn and links added to narrative order, not posting date.

Wanderingclan Leadership and Roles
Wanderingclan Leadership:
The wanderers do not have a formal, singular leadership as most clans do. They lack a formal -Star, instead leadership duties are split between several deputies, each acting as heads for their internal clowder. This group of cats is typically called The Council, with high respect and regard for those who participate or previously did. Basic Wanderingclan philosophy has guided them to the following practice: Clowders follow not a physical cat, or -star, but the direct guidance of Starclan, their travels dictated and guided by the constellations. This dispersed leadership also allows for different sects or “bands” of cats to split and converge with Wanderingclan throughout their journey.
Bands: A band is a sub-group within Wanderingclan as a whole. These usually consist of a cats of similar work specialties, sometimes an extended familial group. Typically they don’t have their own names, and consider themselves all apart or within Wanderingclan. Bands are self-led, with internal decisions made as a group, but each band’s will is voiced by an elected Deputy. Deputies are selected by vote to represent their band at larger council meetings, and act as a voice for their community within the larger deputy collective. There, deputies (sometimes called “denmas” as a slang between younger members), make plans of travel, ration food, and make camping arrangements. This is also where deputies may make announcements that their band plans to separate to a new path, or stay behind and make a permanent camp. New deputies can be elected when a band is deemed large enough to require one, or when a cat declares their intention to make one, and there can be anywhere between 10 to 50+ deputies at any given time within the Wanderingclan council. No one deputy or leader may control the entirety of Wanderingclan. A deputy can be of any rank, whether warrior or healer, hunter or artisan. Or any age, some bands believe their deputy or chosen leader reincarnate and the title can be given to anyone of speaking ability (this includes interpretation through the various cat dialects, cat sign, etc.)
Sooooo Wanderingclan lore dump soon blinks my big eyes
I'm sure you might have seen, but I've started posting some wanderingclan lore over @wanderingclan!! that's the best place to send asks about anything specific you might be interested in
WHAT THE FUCK THATS SO MANY CATS??????????? They’re eating Ranchclan out of house and home!!!! Hunt for yourselves!!! Smh rude guests….
Wanderingclan can have upwards of 300+ cats at any given time! They're a suuupper large clan and have run out of prey partially due to their size, being held up for longer than they expected (original plan was Wanderingclan was supposed to arrive the most recent greenleaf), and the poor freezing weather reducing prey in the area.
Alright, we HAVE to know more about Parchmentpaw. How did they become deputy? Who in their right mind would allow this? Get that child a warm nest to sleep in and a filling meal! They shouldn't be ordering patrols and doing battle strategies!
If it helps, Parchmentpaw isn't the Only deputy of Wanderingclan! He's just the deputy/leader of this specific band - M.K, Hogbreath, Sandycreek, and Dragonflyhorse. They're a subset that travels ahead of the larger group, and Parchment themself is a pacifist!
Once the main bulk of Wanderingclan arrives, I plan on posting more info about their leadership structure and nomadic lifestyle - goal is an open source clan that people can include in any of their projects!
Just wondering, how do you keep track of the cats in both Clans, especially considering kits are being traded between them? I have a few Clans I'm running side-by-side but I've found it too difficult to have any mixing between them without getting super overwhelmed.
So the truth is I don't track the Kittypet Colony, Valleyclan or Wanderingclan. Both clans are Much Much larger than Ranch (Valley can sit at around 100 cats, Wandering upwards of 300! Kittypets sit closer at a reasonable 15) I'll track some specific cats and lineages, ie like a Dramatis Personae, but leave a significant amount of No-Name population to pull from.
None of our current Ranch/Valley cats are related with each other! SparkNettle (Fools Parent), BoneAsh (Wheat, Magpie, Cow), nor Laureldapple are related. I think Laurel and Frostbriar might be distantly related, but not enough for them to consider each other family.
