most of us have heard of the cartoon network show “foster’s home for imaginary friends.” and even if you haven’t, you DEFINITELY know about the insanely popular “powerpuff girls.” for many kids in my generation, these shows were a big part of their childhood, but whether they were or not, most everyone who’s heard of their legacy can rightfully appreciate them.
you probably don’t know this, but the creator of both of these is craig mccracken, a pretty big name in cartoons. this is partly due to the massive hit both of these shows made, but also to his work on other cartoons, such as dexter’s laboratory, chowder, regular show, and a whole ton more.
all the way back in 2013, a new show of his began airing, this time by the name “wander over yonder.” chances are, you’ve heard a bit here and there about it, although recently with the success of it’s second season and more specifically, it’s musical episode “my fair hatey,” it has grown a decently sized and extremely devoted fanbase.
now, the final episodes of season two are wrapping up and we’ve got about thirty days or so until the finale. this is all fine and good… except for the fact that the show is being cancelled– despite the fact that pretty much an entire third season worth of content had been planned.
needless to say, fans were shocked, outraged, and hurt. for many who watch it, this show is their happy place. it preaches kindness, respect, and pacifism in a manner that isn’t condescending or cliched. WOY has also been continually appraised for its gorgeous colors, animation, and characters. which is another strong point; the characters, while extremely likable, all have their very clear flaws. HOWEVER. that works completely to the show’s advantage by making them interesting, relatable, and most often, downright hilarious. (i’m looking at you, hater)
i could honestly go on and on and ON about this show’s amazing qualities but by now, you’ve most likely got the gist. WOY has SO much heart and it means the world to me and thousands of others around the globe. currently, there’s a petition going with just over 20,000 signatures. you do not have to pay anything, all it takes is a few clicks of your mouse. you don’t even have to WATCH the show, just please realize how important it is to a lot of people.
us fans aren’t asking for much, just one more season. i feel wander still has more to teach us and honestly, i’m nowhere near ready to see him go. as alex hirsch was able to do with gravity falls, we’d like to see craig and co. end the show on their own terms. so that’s why it would mean SO much to me if you took less than a minute out of your day to contribute, because as wander himself says: “it never hurts to help.”
