She sneaks into the office where Capsica is working on paperwork,then climbs into her lap, wrapping most of her tails around her as she curls up as if for a nap, eyes closed, a playful grin on her face.

The last tail has a piece of paper taped to the end, and is held up for view.

Testing sensory input. I think I have it set to an acceptable level but needs testing. Figured on trial by fire, so to speak.

There IS a C variant for exactly that, we use it during ward ships to prevent our wards from imprinting on our biorhythms… at least some of us do. You of course don’t need it yet but I’d advise it for future close Affini encounters.

It’s a very good thing you’re doing, while of course you understand the legal intricacies of your implant they don’t- they just see a Floret totally in control of their own destiny, a citizen of the Accord subjected to its most terrifying treatment and still whole on the other side. It’s exactly what I had hoped for when setting this up.

Oh but you do! We invent a new dialect for every species we encounter that’s compatible with their method of communication for that specific reason! You Terran-based sophonts have very sophisticated mouthparts and can actually learn to speak and understand a LOT of Affini dialects though you struggle a little bit at higher frequencies.

I have to say, I am curious as to your solution, Capsica. I didn't realize that my normal was such a problem. I don't feel that I have been failed. I've been given more than I ever expected.

If it helps for the other Affini to know more, I was diagnosed by a Terran psychiatrist with the following: Gender dysphoria, autism, plurality, dissociative identity disorder, and schizoid personality disorder, as well as my regular doctors confirming sensory processing differences. I do not see those as a disorder but simply a different way to experience life.

I have tried literally every anti-depressant the Accord had to offer. The vast majority had side effects that, if i had continued to take them, would have led to me not surviving to be here today. Most simply made things worse, leading to dangerous spiraling. None did what I had hoped. So you might understand why I am skeptical of miracle drugs that supposedly can fix things. Many of which aren't things I particularly want 'fixed".

Also, i still haven't figure out what "happy" is supposed to mean.

I concur that you are not disordered, petal, you are beautifully different and the Compact is better with you in it. You deserve a long and easy life with as much enjoyment as we can give you as you are. My solution is to empower you to overcome your challenges without compromising your uniqueness. I have identified the following aspects that need remedied, not about you but your environment:

1. The standard compact monitoring causes you distress. We cannot allow any Sophont to be without care when they need it, so it cannot be turned off without a replacement. Your prescription class Zs are a temporary solution.

2. Constant Sophont contact with a standard owner would harm you without significant neural remapping. You also have objection to being ‘owned’ though this is likely a trauma response

3. An aversion to recreational Xenodrugs due to biological factors that would take a Haustoric Implant to counter. It is difficult to stay sober in the Compact without avoiding otherwise pleasurable activities.

My proposed solution: A group effort domestication and communal non-ownership Florethood. Any Affini willing to assist would contribute a fraction of the traditional core sample and grow a custom Haustoric Implant for the purposes of ensuring your health and safety while you are alone and unmonitored. No individual Affini would own you, each would be a resource for your wellbeing. With this in effect you would never be at risk of serious harm, and no Affini could domesticate you without your consent or a unanimous vote of the Implant Donors. Your biochemistry would be regulated to filter out all Xenodrug dosage you did not initiate. Your sensory issues would be filtered to no longer upset you. No food could harm you if you wanted to try a wider variety. Your Class G and Z regimen would be automatically administered and made more effective. A wider variety of biomods would be available, and your headmates could communicate with the outside world without fronting if they wished. You would maintain the vast majority of rights and your title of independent, but be required to be on the same ship or planet as at least one Affini you are implanted with. We would be able to ask your implant how you are doing without Hab cameras or Sophont interaction.

Hey all. Eris here. Kae likes to call me her mental security system, but I evolved to be a bit more than that. She's having a bit of a mental breakdown so I put her in a bit of a time-out. Not the first time. I can't speak for her but as part of this system I have a few things I want before I will support this option. I don't particularly care for the idea of chains vines tying me down anywhere but apparently I'm not going to be getting a choice.

No name change. Kae may have been an edgy teenager when she named herself for Chaos, but the name doesn't really work if you change the last name. Not sure how you would count the Xth Floret part with the whole communal bit either.

No collars. We both hate anything around our neck.

No touching, no petting, unless specifically asked first. Unexpected touching causes her severe stress, which is why she tends to prevent as touch-averse.

Someone friggin figure out how to make her happy. She wasn't exageratting when she said she didn't understand the concept. We don't think her brain handles the neurotransmitters for it right.

Now I am going to go compile a Class Z. If she has any other requirements, she can note them once she has calmed down and got some sleep.

I would advocate for you if you instead opted for intensive hypnotherapy in order to come to terms with the harm that was done to you and accept the kindness that we offer. But i anticipate you’d like that even less.

In lieu of a floret collar I could provide ultraviolet skin markings that translate to “do not touch without permission.” Which is actually fairly common compared to your legal status as an implanted independent. I’ve found only 11 other examples Compact-Wide as precedent compared to the roughly 3 Billion Terran Florets alone. But it’s been done.

It's just really funny, the only outward support I've seen for people with it/its pronouns are...the trans women I've seen with it/its pronouns. That's it. I don't use them as much as I should because the "queer community in real life" generally looks down on them.
