Remember today when you see 100+ articles about how âcivilâ and ânobleâ H.W. Bush was that today is World AIDS Day. That 100,000 people, many LGBT+ individuals, especially gay men, died under his and Reaganâs watch. That he banned HIV+ people from entering the US, reduced research funding, and prevented educators from speaking about safe sex in favor of abstinence only education.
The luxury of the rich is maintained through the misery of the poor.
Forced scarcity is the the zero-sum nexus of consumerism and capitalism.
Live by example and give up your wealth instead of virtue signaling. Maybe others will then follow your example.
The left: âThe rich become wealthy off the backs of the poorest. They use their control over workplaces and resources to accumulate profits, hiring workers (who lack access to viable workplaces and utilities of their own) to do all the labor necessary to create value. Acting like isolated acts of philanthropy will solve that fundamental injustice is like telling a cancer patient to wear more band-aids. Itâs not about âgiving more to the poorâ; itâs about democratizing essential utilities at their source so that no human has to live in poverty or take orders from a boss or property-owner. Any âsolutionâ that avoids this aspect of the problem â including philanthropy and redistributive taxation â is a dead-end.â
Conservatives: âUh, *scoffs*, why donât you stop virtue signaling and give all your money to a few poor people then, cuck? *scoffs* That will solve global poverty and take attention away from the billionaires who have so much money they could literally end global poverty and still live comfortably. *scoffs* Cucks donât understand basic economics. Economic justice would make the money sad âšď¸â
Profit creates progress. Take away the profits and you do nothing but stifle progress. What you are actively crying for has been tried many times and has failed at every level. Your understanding of economics is based on feelings and not logic.
âI am incapable of conceptualizing a motive for the further development of my fellow man besides greed.â
riiiiiight, because itâs weâre clearly utilising technology to its maximum potential at the mom- oh wait no weâre not, the oil industry constantly kills progress is renewable energy tech because itâd threaten their profits. And cheap, easily-accessible medicine is suppressed by biotech companies because itâs better for them to create artificial scarcities. And almost all menial jobs could be eliminated with automation but itâs cheaper to make wage-slaves waste their lives doing it. Fuck outta here with that bullshit, man.
The whole âyour understanding of (a human made science) is based on feelings and not logicâ is so incredibly asinine âcause like, economicsâŚ. isnât real, humans created it based around perceived commonalities in trading trends centuries ago and it as a social science could very much be changed
There is no logic to economics so like, sorry if Iâd rather care about the well being of my fellow people instead of submitting to a fake understanding of human nature crafted by our corporate leaders
I know people who basically tell me that I, a minimum wage-paid, impoverished laborer, could help end poverty by being less materialistic. That always makes me so fucking mad because those of us who are poor, even if we do have eight pairs of shoes (most of them years old, jealously guarded, and well taken care of because who knows when Iâll be able to buy a new pair) instead of the one or two pairs we may technically need, are not the reason that another human doesnât have any shoes. Iâm as much a wage slave as anyone else on the bottom rung.
Stop asking poor people to live even more simply, as if that could fix inequality, and start dismantling capitalism. Lateral charity from one poor person to another does not change the economic system that made any of them poor.
Lateral charity from one poor person to another does not change the economic system that made any of them poor.
âLateral charity from one poor person to another does not change the economic system that made any of them poor.â
This needs more notes.
This.
Also, capitalism is extraordinarily inefficient at producing progress because it encourages absurd levels of redundancy by making it a priority to do the exact same thing your competitor is doing. It means youâre doing the work 10 times over to advance half as far.
The only benefit we get from this kind of model is that itâs useful for improving efficiency on a very small scale, and even then itâs only useful if we control for capitalismâs need to define âefficientâ as âbuilt on human sufferingâ.
And profit would only âcreateâ progress if ALL of the profit went back into the business. But it doesnât, it goes to the owner and shareholders, to fatten their wallets.
THIS!!!!!!!!
I love it when Capitalists get destroyed like this.
Not sure why, but tumblr removed this gif in my above comment:
Because sometimes you just need to do the Oprah shrug when a capitalist proves your point for you.
Also, most general purpose technology we use was developed by the state. Technological innovation takes decades to become commercially viable and companies would rather not invest the time given that they wouldnât want to wait for decades to profit.
Todayâs aesthetic: keeping the same tab open in your browser for three solid weeks because youâre definitely going to get around to reading and/or acting on whateverâs in it any minute now.
This is a personal attack.
imperialist running dogs: âbut have u seen the state grocery stores? they only have BREADâ
cuba: *has the only fully internally-sustainable agricultural system on the planet, featuring urban agriculture on an unprecedented scale that makes fresh produce accessible to urban dwellers without the need for imports, all while utilizing urban spaces to the fullest possible degree*
By 1998 there were â8,000 gardens in Havana, cultivated by over 30,000 people and creating 160,000 jobs, and by 2001 this had resulted in urban gardens supplying âabout 60% of all the vegetables consumed in Cuba.â In doing so they provided ânearly enough fresh produce to meet minimum daily standards set by the UN FAO.â
"It's impossible to express how special it feels when so many people help you."
For the past 27 days, a small Protestant church in The Hague has been conducting round-the-clock religious services to protect an Armenian refugee family from deportation.
By law, police officers in The Netherlands are not allowed to enter places of worship during religious services. So, reverends from around the country have taken turns holding services at Bethel Church to prevent officials from arresting the Tamrazyan family, who have been in The Netherlands for nine years.Â
âBy giving hospitality to this family, we could give them time and place to [demonstrate] to the secretary of state the ⌠urgency of their situation,â Theo Hettema, chairman of the General Council of Protestant Ministers says.
And here in the US we tear gas people for just wanting to come in. Fuck this country.
Well, this isnât a âthe Netherlands is better than the USâ thing. This is very much a âstates attack refugees and people resistâ thing.
This whole action is going on BECAUSE the Dutch state is deporting children who are born here or have lived here since they were toddlers, who donât speak any other language than Dutch and then suddenly have to live in a country where they donât speak the language, where some have no relatives and where many are not safe.
The Dutch government treats refugees like shit and has plenty of blood on its hands, thatâs why things like these are happening.
one of the best anarchist films imoÂ
the thing thats shitty about âgreen livingâ in a capitalist society is that capitalism will make the consumer dependent on the system (mega corporations, companies, whatever), which will produce pollution/waste/etc regardless. from what i gather the solarpunk movement not only focuses on true sustainable living but also encourages people to be self dependent, collect their own energy/water/etc, whereas modern âgreen livingâ puts up a class barrier by charging a shitton for things like reusable bags, boxes, eco friendly packagaing, clothes, food, etc, a lot of which are also produced through unethical labor.
theyve basically got a lot of people trapped, thinking that theyâre doing their part to save the environment, but they arent (and that isnt their fault). they dont realize that their environmental impact is infinitesimally small and these companies are just taking advantage of their drive to do good.
Tbh im kinda pissed im not asleep in bed next to the love of my life in a cottage with no obligations other than watering my vegetable garden
Hey. My friend and comrade is being evicted from her childhood home along with her family and could really use some help getting the funds for a security deposit on a new place to live and moving expenses. Please donate and/ or share if you can. Thank you, and I really appreciate it.Â
