HOOOOLLLY SHIT, PEAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Minor Spoilers for Claude's backstory!
Can we talk about how complex Claude's backstory is? He's not just the "random bullshit go"-devotee that I've seen in a lot of fiction. Of course, this isn't (necessarily) a bad trope if used correctly. Personally I just love the detail 66 put in his backstory, that's made him my favourite character, aswell as the reasoning behind why he "blindly" follows Jericho. (In the episodes where he helps Nia find Rex we obv see he's not blind in his devotion but yk what I mean.)
Like at first the curiosity about Jericho, then giving up his face etc etc. They have a rlly complex relationship, and Claude's backstory is such a huge and important part and I love it so much.
PTOLEMY TOOK SO LONG TO COLOUR IN AND THATS LIKE.. ONLY ONE OF THEIR FORMS TOO....
Anyway I love love love Msak.
Upp 2.4 really reinforced a lot of ideas I’ve had about Williams character for a while and it makes me sooo happy…
Lui getting angry at William because he’s acting so stupid and playful amongst all the terrifying things. William constantly edging away from direct danger yet still complaining when it has to be his turn. William making jokes and puns at such a horrible time because he copes with it all in a way that just Isn’t Helpful to everyone else.
He’s not malicious about it, he’s just inherently playful (wisp moment) and more of an aid than a tank (wisp moment).
William looking to Lui’s eyes and seeing how overconfident he feels with the grimoire… I really love how often in upp (and in pd actually) he picks up on people lying or acting oddly (even when it’s not malicious!!! Lui upp2.4 and Tide in pd1 finale!!!)… William Could have said something to him, could have done more. William could have comforted Norah and Lui and he sort of tries by attempting to lighten the mood but they just don’t land.
It really feels like William isn’t built for the story he’s in. He’s a comedic dork who never seems to fully grasp the danger he’s putting himself in despite being so afraid of it. He never takes anything seriously enough. And it annoys the other characters!!!! Lui gives him a look, Norah is clearly on her last bits of sanity and Isaac clearly disliked William’s little “why is it always me?” In the forest!!!!! William being the problem in every dynamic he’s ever been in and ever will be because he’s just Like That (wisp moment) !!!!!!!
Brain worm moment from guy who lovesss grayscale arc and what it did for Williams character . Tied with upp 2.4
In PD I always found it really interesting how most arcs with any focus on William often pushed him into doing cruel and violent things to either protect the people he cared about (Tide in pd1, David in grayscale, etc) and how William as a character is Built to excel when he has to take the dirtier road.
… and then upp2.4 came and killed me with hammers. Oh my god. I’ve always held the opinion that William’s had “what it takes” for grayscale wayyyy back in pd s1, but this finale proved it and it’s. Yum!!!! William is rarely angry, but when he’s blinded or desperate or behaving completely impulsively he can be SUCH a manipulative jerk. He lies to people, uses their insecurities against them, mocks them, and I fucked SO hard with him using Isaac’s dead family members against him in the moment when he was demanding the axe.
If William can justify what he’s doing to himself then nothing is off the table.
I keep bringing up grayscale but it’s because it really feels like this season of upp drew a lot of William stuff from it. Like William hacking at the roots VS William going for Xavier’s legs, William using Isaac’s recent trauma against him VS William using David and Xavier’s kill count against them, William’s anger coming from how much has been Taken from Them All rather than just Him. That and repeat dialogues (“do you trust me/I need you to trust me”;”I know I’m not the best son”) just feel at least slightly purposeful.

Monster Lover p18 visual overanalysis if anyone cares.
Okay time to overanalyse a 2 minute long animation to do with a minecraft ARG.. (jk i had so much fun with this)
(Ofc ofc all the content warnings from the original episode) CW: blood, allusion to suicide, sexual harrassment, disturbing imagery, blood, implied gore.
First few seconds we see a bathtub drain. Not entirely clean, theres specks of some sort of dried liquid (looks like blood) which may indicate that this has happened before, especially if you look closely you can see some of it swirling around and going down the drain... Then we see Msak, but just his face and water raining down on him. Hes looking down. Then the screen cuts back to the drain and suddenly a whole bunch of blood moves into view, mixed with water ane making splatters everywhere. It also goes down the drain. This seems to shock Msak which contradicts the fact that this happened before but then again its not clear if hes shocked about the blood going down the drain or the next scene of the blood on his hand (could be literal or it could be just a metaphor for the feeling of guilt) Either way he seems confused and horrified. The scenes for most of the first few seconds have been the colours red, orange, yellow, white and black. during the drain scene its primarly a light orange and white disrupted by the specks of blood and dark drain. Again the drain could also just be a metaphor for "watching everything go down the drain" or way that even though the blood itself has been washed down the drain, the splatters havent and will stick with Msak. When we see Msak himself, the background becomes desaturated and muddy, primarily yellows and splotches of grey. When we see the blood in the 8th second its so dark that its almost black and funnily enough when he sees this, the dull yellow/grey background turn black. The background fading away in a pixelated sort of manor.
The confusion seems to shift into a sort of horror of maybe confrontation/realisation of what this is. Especially when we see his hand that is holding the blood, there is an outline of a mouth with jagged teeth (Looks like the same one that is visible in the background of the "forgiveness" video) and we are met with an uncomfortable scene of Msak being visibly tense before relaxing slightly until hands come down from behind him , touching his face. You can see how uncomfortable he is physically and how he draws into himself, the contrast between the drawn animation and 3d animation causes a feeling of unnerve and like something is wrong, unbelonging to the scene. The way the figure physically emposes Msak creates the translation of power and how big this other person (or problem/impact) may feel to Msak. Plus how neither of them are wearing clothes creates vulnerability (vulnerability that Msak doesnt seem comfortable with at all)
Maybe Im reaching but the fact that we do not see his mouth when watching the blood drip from the larger figure's mouth could also be a symbol of lack of power in a situation, although the terror is clearly obvious. What was one drop became a pool that he is floats in, the fact that the blood is revealed to have come from the mouth of the figure creates disturbing implications as he lies in it as he doesn't seen to make a move to try to get up. Additionally the fact that the blood in his palm mightve come from the figure too which reflected that mouth I mentioned earlier may mean the figure has connection to the "forgiveness" video in some way. ...Not to mention how pale and thin the figure is in some places, the outline of their ribs visible. Perhaps a memory/a person who passed away that haunts him.
His colour is wiped away and replaced by red and black shades and despite his terror he stays still as hes pulled into the pool of blood by the hands, the placement of them is pretty unnerving too, with the way one of his eyes get covered and holding his head, the finger on his cheek... Reliving experiences, the feeling of drowning, the way he doesnt even blink just shifts expressions to look more.. tired.. As the hands get more comfortable. The colour scheme is also interesting to me as the red tone reflects the colour of the blood which seems to be a persistent symbol of his trauma, the way he is enveloped by the colour of it strikes me as a way of representing how impactful it has been to him and his guilts and how he eventually sinks under.
When he emerges its even darker.. Msak being the red one now, (again, physically carrying the burden of his past, we know he has some sort of guilt for something too as he has claimed to Ptolemy to have down awful things). The coffin that he approaches is a pink colour, rosy in hue. Perhaps a reference to "When I die, I hope they don't bury me in a dress." and "I wonder if 1063100 (Msak) would say the same..." The pink can be taken in several ways: a representation or symbol of identity as associated to the stereotypical "feminine colour" pink. Perhaps dysphoria. Or alternatively it could be seen as seeing his death as something appealing. We all know the phrase "rose-tinted glasses" and this may be a stretch but being in a pink coffin could be a symbol of idealised suicide, the surprisingly warmer colour in that void compared to the deep red of Msak.
We see a feminine figure next, also red. Whatever theyre holding is pixelated and hard to see.. And then the coffin falls over, a portion of it also pixelated (maybe a nameplate). Perhaps a name that we arent allowed to know just yet or one that Msak doesn't want to remember. The figure from the video looks alot like the one seen in the untitled album on imgur (https://imgur.com/a/GeqyPHN) The one where Msak is asked if he remembers.. There is blood coming out of the coffin and what looks like wire loops(?)
Eventually the red fades.. And we see Ikaika (i think) in a grey colour. Wires bursting out of his eyes which I am not quite sure what thay could mean but I am open to hearing ideas. We can also see the large figure a bit clearer here with long hair and a large smile, constantly leaking something out of its mouth.
We are confronted with the fact that Msak has experienced the loss of someone due to suicide as we see someone hanging and next scene we see him at a gravestone, crushing a cigarette and standing over it before walking away
Video fades to black and we hear the voice of Mason seemingly reciting something:
"Look upon my work, ye mighty and despair" which seems to reference Ozymandias... The rise of pride and eventual fall no matter of greatness..
Oh yeah did I mention the song playing in the background to this episode was Introduction to the Snow by Miracle Musical which one of its interpretations are the idea of edge of death, isolation and uncertainty. Aswell as the fact the story followed by that song discusses a couple.. As we know Msak has had a history of dating beforehand which he doesnt wish to speak about and I wonder if this relates somewhat to that...
Or Im just grasping at straws LMAO
small flash warning for glitch effect //
nowhere to run to. it's forever down there
Don't forget, Avery
Their dynamic drives me fucking insane:
Having early albatrio meets current albatrio thoughts
riptide aint even found family, its chosen family. the characters make deliberate decisions to keep eachother around and protect and care for eachother. they love on purpose and with intent and not by circumstance and its sooooo fucking goooood. they choose eachother on purpose every time regardless of destiny or fate. im gonna chew on a power cord
Drew an old OC....
