Fellow alicent defenders unite
YES ALL ALICENT DEFENDERS REBLOG THIS POST IN HONOR FOR OUR QUEEN
I was thinking about how Kou, Gon and Yuji reacted to their deaths in a very similar way even though they've only known them for a short time, so this happened.
she’s so iconic, her lines served so hard.
My Queen, serving savage one liners
I like it so much that Sansa's stans also fell in love with Alicent. these characters really have something in common. I can already imagine how many videos there will be about parallels with their fathers. After all, Otto will be beheaded, and Alicent will probably see it. :(
We stan Criston for respecting sex workers and being the only feminist man in probably the entirety of GOT
And we hate Daemon for constantly making misogynistic remarks about any woman, generally his wives, that he doesn't like, emotionally neglecting his second wife, grooming Rhaenyra, cheating on Rhaenyra, neglecting his children, committing treason every other sentence, and that's not even half of it.
i agree whole heartedly with the daemon part but calling criston a feminist is insane lol sorry. no man in awoiaf is feminist, but especially not him. i don’t exactly agree with the “he’s an insecure incel who hates women” angle on his character but let’s not forget he calls rhaenyra a cunt and a whore.
If he knew what feminism was, he would be a feminist and I have no doubt about that. He is a dornish (brown) man in westeros, who climbed the ranks himself. He didn't have nepotism on his side, I'm sure he'd have some sort of understanding with the women in this kingdom who also dont have it good. He explicitly states that all women are an image of the mother. This is when they were talking about goddamn SEX WORKERS.
Calling a singular woman who wronged him a cunt or a whore does not make him misogynistic. He was not hating on WOMEN, he was hating on RHAENYRA. Her as a person. He hated her for how she treated him, not the fact that she was a woman. You can hate a singular woman and still be a feminist. He doesn't hate women. He hates a woman.
There's an insanely large difference, and you need to learn it lmao

pussy cat redemption
I have seen quite often that many people consider young Alicent to be too sensitive and just an envious/jealous girl. Well...
Daemon almost killed Alicent's brother at the tourney, (he was much younger than him). Gwayne was so badly wounded that even the maester had to personally visit Otto and warn him that his son will live.
Otto and Daemon's relationship has always been tense. Daemon allows himself to insult the memory of Otto's dead wife, in front of EVERYONE at the council.. And I remind you, mother's death is the same trauma for Alicent as for everyone's beloved Rhaenyra whom everyone loves to justify her behavior with the death of her mother. But no one talks about Alicent, even tho she also lost her mother. Alicent loved her very much and she still misses her, praying every day at the sept. Do you think she doesn't know what kind of relationship her father has with Daemon? She knows what a terrible person Daemon is, what frightening violence he is capable of, but she is silent and smiles because he is a prince, he is the brother of the king, and uncle of her best friend. She always has to be silent, polite and patient, just like her father.
Imagine what Alicent felt when she found out that Rhaenyra had slept with a man like Daemon? Betrayal. No, it's not just envy that her "friend" has privileges, it'sdisappointment. To make matters worse, Rhaenyra lied to Alicent, she SWEARS BY HER MOTHER'S GRAVE AND DEATH that she IS TELLING THE TRUTH. Mother. Little Alicent values her words, she values the memory of her mother, she is still grieving, and she believes Rhaenyra.
She even refuses to believe her own father, the closest and dearest person in her life. And for what? Eventually she becomes the reason why her father is kicked out of the Red Keep in disgrace, depriving the status of the king's right hand. She defended Rhaenyra's honor, she justified her, and was left absolutely alone again. No mother, no father.
She feels the bitterness and pain of loneliness in the court, and then this feeling doubles because what she did turns out to be a huge mistake. Her best friend is a liar. From Alicent's perspective, her best friend hooked up with a man who had been at enmity with her father all her life, almost killed her brother, and after Rhaenyra smiles at her as if nothing had happened, and shamelessly scatters words, the consequence of which is the departure of her father.
But yeah, for some stupid reason of course "she's just jealous girl" and nothing more.
I want to share my thoughts about Otto's and Alicent relationship, probably controversial because I haven't seen anything about them.
yes, he is ambitious, yes, he is an intriguer. yes, he even manipulated Alicent, but still, Otto loves her.
this is noticeable by the way he tries in every possible way to comfort her, hugging her tightly and soothing her. Otto is literally Alicent's only support besides her children, she herself says this in a conversation with Larys, complaining that if her father were with her, he would support her. at times when she feels lonely in the whole court, father is the first person she thinks about.
when she says that Otto used her as a pawn, Otto replies that he made her a queen. that is, he means that first of all he tried to improve her status and his family as a whole.
Rhys Ifans (Ottos actor) himself confirms this, saying that Otto cares about his daughter, but he doesn't always know how to express this love, instead preferring actions — a successful position in society. Otto believes that this is the best thing he can do for her, to give her absolute power and strength in all Seven Kingdoms.
when he was kicked out of the capital, he didn't lie to Alicent. think for yourself, wouldn't you have the thought that you are in danger when there is a person like DAEMON and RHAENYRA TARGARYEN around?
even if Rhaenyra had not tried to kill Alicent's kids, Daemon would have done it, and as we see in the last episode where he's not particularly eager to obey his wife, he would definitely have acted against her will. and the situation with the eye where Rhaenyra demanded the torture of the child, and then "Blood and cheese" only proves it. and people then think that Otto's words about the threat to the life of Alicent and her family were manipulation? he was only telling the truth. and thank god Alicent believed him. many of Otto's actions are driven by the idea that he is only seeking the best for his family, even though in the end it led them all to death. he's still terrible father tho... but anyways, I LOVE OUR GREEN GRANDPA.
a thing that i really hate about team black is how they say that we can’t really be mad at Rhaenyra for having three bastard children as a woman, because men have been doing the same thing all the time and no one cared.
But they kinda always forget about a very important detail; Whenever men had bastard children, they pretty much never put them in line for inheritance. They were aware of the fact that some random children they had with some random women are somewhere out there living their lives. And they didn’t care. They didn’t put their lives in danger by saying “oh, yeah, they are my legitimate children” even though the children look nothing like their mother or something. And whenever they *do* have their bastards live with them, they always admit that they are their bastards and never put them higher than legitimate heirs to their house.
Like Ned Stark has always been like “hey, that’s my bastard son, Jon, he is living with us at Winterfell. We raised him, fed him and treated him right, but when it comes to inherit Winterfell, my legitimate son with my wife Caitlyn, Robb, who is the true heir to house Stark, will become the next Lord, not Jon”
Rhaenyra, well, did the exact opposte.
And if you say “oh, but she’s a woman, she can’t do that, since people will get angry if she admitted to having bastard children with a man that is not her husband!” I will say, as a woman myself, no matter how cruel that might sound: that’s Rhaenyra’s problem. She knew damn well that when a man and a woman have sex, it’s the woman that gets pregnant. And if she really wanted to have children, she could’ve had sex with someone that slightly looks like her husband. Like, what the hell did she, a blonde white woman, expect her children to look like, having sex with a dark haired white man?
Because that’s the world she lives in. A cruel and unfair patriarchal world. And she does absolutely fucking NOTHING to change it. She doesn’t fight for women’s rights, doesn’t call out this patriarchy that somewhat caused the war itself, she doesn’t do anything to get rid of it. So that’s on her
what would you think would happen if the greens just let rhaenyra sit on the throne
at a minimum, alicent's boys would have all been killed.
okay now that i've grabbed your attention, let me explain, and i promise i'll be able to make this entire argument without ever claiming rhaenyra is a bad person who wants to kill her family! the fact is that rhaenyra's rule was always going to face dangerous levels of backlash, because it threatened the lords of westeros's own claims to power in two major ways. as a reminder, westeros is closer to an empire consisting of autonomous kingdoms than a dictatorship, and the lords of westeros retain much more power than most fans seem to understand. alicent's sons would have ended up the pawns and figureheads for unhappy lords seeking to retain their power in the wake of unrest caused by rhaenyra's ascension. i'll explain all of this further below, using a historical example that i think is helpful.
first, we need to understand that rhaenyra's rule would have still been made very unstable because of two factors: her gender, and her very obvious bastard children. (as a side note, i've talked before about how it is literally genetically impossible for the strong boys to be laenor's sons and why we see people treating it like a fact here). why are these two things so impactful? because they threaten the claims of many of the lords and heirs in westeros's current system.
team green sort of won with the interesting characters. like alicent and rhaenyra? alicent is so much more nuanced and competent and there’s LAYERS. jace and aegon? hear me out bc maybe aegon is a peace of shit at least i know his personality, at least i know his tremendous mommy issues. jace is what? bland. aemond and lucerys? i’m sorry but aemond tamed vhagar as a child, and what did lucerys do? ✨nothing✨
In case anyone needs it, I have the "library" of every clone that has an official name in the Clone Wars.
It's a sheet of gifs but it still has everyone (except the newest characters from Bad Batch they haven't been added yet.)
A gift.

i never understood the hatred people have for criston cole. all his actions make perfect sense. like condemn them all you want, i do too but it doesn’t warrant the hatred. i’m a show only, so im not talking about book!criston. but rhaenyra used her position and his admiration for her to “get some”, ( which i understand since she was just abandoned in a pleasure house by her uncle who is grooming her and probably feeling bad about it but still, i don’t think she even understands that he cannot fully consent ) so when she says it’s not that serious to him, he was probably already feeling guilty ( shouldn’t have murdered joffrey, i admit ) but like he says it himself that white cloak is the only thing he has to his name and princess privilege rhaenyra doesn’t understand how there’s something more important than her to someone. because the greatest privilege in the world fell on her the minute she was born and she doesn’t understand that he could suffer serious consequences and at most she would get a slap on the wrist. in that scene he’s not just asking for her to run away with him, he’s grasping at straws to avoid feeling violated and used. he looks desperate, he’s talking nonsense. his fucked up view of women is just part of living in an extremely patriarchal society.
Maybe this is a bit of a controversial take but I don’t understand why people call alicent misogynistic for following the patriarchal system when that’s the system she grew up in, that’s the system she has known her whole life. Ignoring the fact that women in that time period were more like alicent than anyone else, oppressed and taken advantage of by a corrupt system that took away their most basic rights and only saw them as properties.
I see people saying stuff like alicent should have been more like rhaenyra and not have listened to her father or made her son king and other things along those lines but alicent doesn’t have the power rhaenyra has, all the women in westeros don’t have the power rhaenyra has to be that free. Rhaenyra has a dragon, a fire breathing war machine on call, if she doesn’t like something she could just get on her dragon and fly away or burn things/people down who oppose her or have wronged her, alicent and pretty much all the women in westeros don’t have that sort of power to hop on a dragon and fly away or breathe fire down on their enemies.
They all grew up in a system that told them men had all the power and that women have to bend to their wills ever since they ever young, this is the mindset they grew up with and this mindset also affects how they go on to think and do things, this isn’t a mindset someone can just forget or let go of easily. For every women like rhaenyra there a thousand more like alicent in westeros.
I don’t think alicent is misogynistic for following a patriarchal system I just think she’s trying to survive a system that has existed before she was even born, a system she was born into and grew up in, a system that will still continue to exist even after her death.
