Wasps of the genus Ammophila have been known to use tools! They use their strong jaws to hold pebbles and use them as hammers to help seal their nests. The strong jaws also come in handy for biting down on a stem for sleeping through the night. This sleeping position is actually quite common for many types of wasps, however A. rubripes' elegant form and tendency to hunker down for the night during the golden glow of sunset makes them particularly striking when at rest.
